humanitix-mcp: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/copilot-instructions.md

humanitix-mcp copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from kevinnz/humanitix-mcp. It costs 545 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for developing the Humanitix MCP server, a local program that connects an AI assistant to the Humanitix API. They describe its code structure, commands, API handling, and test process.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when editing the Humanitix client or MCP tools, running targeted tests, running the full test suite, or starting the local server.
Why use it?
They give contributors a consistent way to change the server and check that it still works. They also explain where networking, data models, response formatting, and tool validation belong.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00545 $0.00545
Opus 5.5 $0.00218 $0.00218
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00109 $0.00109
Haiku 4.5 $0.00055 $0.00055

Measured 22d ago against content hash 8d92cff49420, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

humanitix-mcp copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 22d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

humanitix-mcp development instructions

Commands

  • Install development dependencies: uv sync --extra dev
  • Run the full suite: uv run pytest
  • Run one test module: uv run pytest tests/test_client.py
  • Run one test: uv run pytest tests/test_client.py::test_pagination_yields_all_pages
  • Run the stdio server: uv run humanitix-mcp

During an edit cycle, run the affected test module after a cohesive change. Run the full suite once for final validation rather than repeatedly alongside overlapping targeted runs.

Architecture

  • src/humanitix_mcp/client.py owns asynchronous, read-only HTTP access: authentication, timeouts, retry behavior, pagination, throttling, and Humanitix-specific exceptions.
  • src/humanitix_mcp/models.py provides Pydantic models. Models retain unknown API fields so raw=true can return the original payload shape.
  • src/humanitix_mcp/formatting.py trims models into stable MCP responses. Normal tool output must use these helpers; raw output is opt-in only.
  • src/humanitix_mcp/server.py owns the stdio MCP server, tool schemas, argument validation, client lifecycle, structured error responses, and the sales-summary composite tool.
  • Tests use pytest-asyncio and respx; redacted fixtures live under tests/fixtures/.

Humanitix API contract

Before changing the HTTP client, MCP tool schemas, or API-facing tests, fetch the current OpenAPI document at https://api.humanitix.com/v1/documentation/json. Treat it as the source of truth for endpoint paths, query versus path parameters, response collection keys, and supported status values. Do not rely on plan documents or existing tests when they conflict with the live contract.

respx tests must mirror that contract: assert the exact request path and query parameters and use the documented response envelope. In particular, list endpoints use endpoint-specific collection fields rather than a generic items field. Update client and server tests together when the contract changes.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
