e-stats-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

e-stats-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from koizumikento/e-stats-mcp. It costs 388 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of project instructions for coding agents working on an MCP server for Japan's e-Stat statistics API. An MCP server lets an agent call outside tools through a standard connection.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when modifying this e-Stat MCP server, checking API requests, running tests and checks, or handling its catalogue and dataset features.
Why use it?
It records the project's commands, API rules, naming details, and testing requirements so changes follow the repository's conventions.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions AGENTS.md; mentions Codex.

This is koizumikento/e-stats-mcp's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on e-stats-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything e-stats-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00388 $0.00388
Opus 5 $0.00194 $0.00194
Sonnet 5 $0.00078 $0.00078
Haiku 4.5 $0.00039 $0.00039

Measured 7d ago against content hash 011a99329e11, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

e-stats-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

AGENTS.md

Guidance for Codex and other coding agents working in this repository.

Project

This repository implements an MCP server for the e-Stat API using Python, FastMCP, httpx, and Typer. Keep tool return values JSON-serializable unless a tool explicitly returns CSV text.

Commands

Run these before handing off changes:

uv run pytest -q
uv run ruff check .
uv run mypy e_stats_mcp

Use uv run ruff format ... for formatting touched Python files.

API Notes

  • Live e-Stat API calls require E_STAT_APP_ID; do not commit real app IDs.
  • Prefer the official e-Stat API 3.0 manual and sample forms when checking endpoint names, parameter casing, and response shapes.
  • e-Stat parameter names are case-sensitive in practice. Preserve camelCase names such as dataSetId, startPosition, and statsDataId.
  • refDataset does not expose API-side limit / startPosition for dataset list paging. get_dataset applies list paging inside the MCP server.
  • getDataCatalog has no CSV endpoint in e-Stat API 3.0. get_data_catalog_csv fetches JSON and converts DATA_CATALOG_INF records to CSV locally.
  • Broad getDataCatalog searches can be slow even with a small limit. Prefer get_stats_list first, then retry get_data_catalog with stats_code or another narrowing parameter. Keep recovery hints machine-readable.

Testing

Unit tests should mock HTTP with DummyClient and set E_STAT_APP_ID via monkeypatch. Avoid tests that require a real e-Stat application ID unless they are explicitly marked or documented as integration tests.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
