mcp CLAUDE.md

mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for coding agents from launchnotes/mcp. It costs 3,819 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for developing a LaunchNotes MCP server, which manages projects, announcements, feedback, analytics, templates, roadmaps, and links through the LaunchNotes API. They cover TypeScript builds, startup, development mode, and the required API token.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when developing, building, starting, or changing this LaunchNotes integration.
Why use it?
They tell the agent how to build and run the server and which environment setting it needs to connect to LaunchNotes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.03819 $0.03819
Opus 5 $0.01910 $0.01910
Sonnet 5 $0.00764 $0.00764
Haiku 4.5 $0.00382 $0.00382

Measured 3d ago against content hash c2bcf98d2d7c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Overview

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that provides tools for managing LaunchNotes projects and announcements through their GraphQL API. The server exposes 22 tools across 7 resource categories:

  • Projects (6 tools) - Project configuration and management
  • Announcements (7 tools) - Announcement lifecycle management
  • Feedback (2 tools) - Customer feedback search and retrieval
  • Analytics (1 tool) - Performance metrics and top announcements
  • Templates (1 tool) - Announcement template management
  • Roadmap (4 tools) - Roadmap stages and work item management
  • Links (1 tool) - External content attachments

The server uses stdio transport for command-line MCP clients like Claude Desktop.

Development Commands

Build and Run

# Build TypeScript to JavaScript
npm run build

# Start the server
npm start

# Development mode with auto-rebuild on changes
npm run dev

Environment Setup

# Required environment variable
export LAUNCHNOTES_API_TOKEN='your-token-here'

Get your API token from LaunchNotes Settings → API. Use a Management token for read/write operations or a Public token for read-only access.

Mise

There are two files, mise.toml and mise.local.toml that define our env, tools and tasks.

Available Tools

The server provides 22 tools organized into 7 resource categories. Each tool is prefixed with launchnotes_ for easy identification.

Projects (6 tools)

  • launchnotes_get_project - Retrieve complete project details including all customization settings, colors, custom code, and feature flags
  • launchnotes_list_projects - List all LaunchNotes projects accessible with the current API token
  • launchnotes_update_project_custom_code - Update custom CSS, HTML head, header, footer, or index hero for a project
  • launchnotes_update_project_colors - Update color palette and theme (all colors in hex format)
  • launchnotes_update_project_content - Update project title, description, headings, and slug
  • launchnotes_update_project_features - Enable/disable features (feedback, roadmap, ideas, RSS, voting, SEO indexing)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
