freshservice_mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

freshservice_mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from LeeMangold/freshservice_mcp. It costs 1,982 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for Freshservice MCP, a server that lets AI assistants perform Freshservice IT service-management operations through the Freshservice API.

In plain words
What is it for?
Installing dependencies, running the Freshservice server, configuring API credentials, and testing its operations.
Why use it?
It gives developers the setup, run, and test information needed to work on the server and connect it to Freshservice.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01982 $0.01982
Opus 5 $0.00991 $0.00991
Sonnet 5 $0.00396 $0.00396
Haiku 4.5 $0.00198 $0.00198

Measured 8d ago against content hash ec328d9e58e7, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

freshservice_mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Freshservice, enabling AI models to interact with Freshservice's IT Service Management platform. The server exposes Freshservice API operations as MCP tools that can be called by Claude or other AI assistants.

Development Commands

Setup

# Install uv if not already installed
pip install uv

# Install dependencies
uv sync

# Activate virtual environment (if needed)
source .venv/bin/activate

Running the Server

# Run the server manually (requires API credentials)
uvx freshservice-mcp --env FRESHSERVICE_APIKEY=<your_key> --env FRESHSERVICE_DOMAIN=<your_domain>

# Or run via Python module
python -m freshservice_mcp.server

Testing

# Run a specific test function (tests use asyncio)
python tests/test-fs-mcp.py

# The test file contains individual async test functions that can be enabled by uncommenting them
# at the bottom of the file in the __main__ block

Architecture

Core Components

src/freshservice_mcp/server.py - Single monolithic file containing all MCP tool implementations (~97 functions, ~3000+ lines)

The architecture is straightforward:

  • All tool implementations are defined as @mcp.tool() decorated async functions
  • Each tool makes HTTP requests to Freshservice API endpoints using httpx.AsyncClient
  • Authentication uses HTTP Basic Auth with API key (encoded in get_auth_headers())
  • All tools are registered with the FastMCP instance (mcp = FastMCP("freshservice_mcp"))
  • Server entry point is main() which calls mcp.run(transport='stdio')

Key Architectural Patterns

  1. Enum-based Constants: Status codes, priorities, and other Freshservice constants are defined as IntEnum/Enum classes at the top of server.py (TicketSource, TicketStatus, TicketPriority, ChangeStatus, etc.)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

freshservice_mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository LeeMangold/freshservice_mcp (0 stars, last pushed 8mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 1,982 tokens to every session, about $0.0099 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
