odata-mcp-proxy: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

odata-mcp-proxy CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from lemaiwo/odata-mcp-proxy. It costs 1,774 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository guidance for an MCP server that connects AI assistants to SAP Cloud Integration data through OData APIs. It covers local and cloud running modes, commands, tests, and deployment.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to run the project with hot reload, build its TypeScript files, start it locally or over HTTP, run tests, and deploy it to SAP BTP Cloud Foundry.
Why use it?
It gives the coding agent the project’s expected commands and architecture, reducing guesswork when installing, developing, testing, or deploying the server.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01774 $0.01774
Opus 5 $0.00887 $0.00887
Sonnet 5 $0.00355 $0.00355
Haiku 4.5 $0.00177 $0.00177

Security

Grade A, and why

odata-mcp-proxy CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Commands

# Install dependencies
npm install

# Development with hot reload
npm run dev

# Build TypeScript to dist/
npm run build

# Run built server (HTTP transport, default)
npm start

# Run with stdio transport (for Claude Desktop)
npm run start:stdio

# Run tests (node:test via tsx; builds first — the e2e test boots dist/index.js)
npm test

# Deploy to SAP BTP
npm run build:btp # Build MTA archive
npm run deploy:btp # Deploy via CF CLI

Tests live in test/ (unit tests for the UI layer and destination fallback, plus a stdio end-to-end test against a stub config in test/fixtures/).

Architecture

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that bridges AI assistants with SAP Cloud Integration (CPI) OData V2 APIs. It runs as either a stdio server (local Claude Desktop) or an HTTP server (SAP BTP Cloud Foundry deployment).

Transport Modes

  • stdio (MCP_TRANSPORT=stdio): For Claude Desktop integration. Reads/writes over standard I/O.
  • HTTP (MCP_TRANSPORT=http, default): Express-based server on port 4004. Uses Streamable HTTP with SSE (GET /mcp) for notifications, POST /mcp for requests, DELETE /mcp for session teardown. Session state maintained in-memory.

Request Flow

AI Assistant → MCP Protocol → McpServer (tool registry) → ODataClient → Destination Service → SAP CPI OData APIs
  1. AI sends tool call (e.g. IntegrationPackages_list)
  2. Tool handler in src/tools/registry.ts constructs an OData request
  3. ODataClient (src/client/odata-client.ts) resolves the destination and executes the HTTP request via SAP Cloud SDK
  4. resolveDestination() (src/client/destination-service.ts) returns credentials:
    • BTP mode: Uses @sap-cloud-sdk/connectivity with bound VCAP_SERVICES
    • Local mode: Uses env vars (SAP_CPI_BASE_URL, SAP_CPI_CLIENT_ID, SAP_CPI_CLIENT_SECRET, SAP_CPI_TOKEN_URL) for direct OAuth2

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
