excessibility: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

excessibility CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from lessthanseventy/excessibility. It costs 5,025 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of project instructions for Excessibility, an Elixir library that checks Phoenix application HTML snapshots for accessibility. Accessibility testing checks whether websites can be used by people with disabilities, including against WCAG rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing Excessibility, running its tests or accessibility checks, approving snapshot differences, or generating its documentation.
Why use it?
It collects the project’s commands for tests, formatting, static analysis, documentation, and Pa11y-based accessibility checks in one place. This helps an agent follow the repository’s expected development process.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.05025 $0.05025
Opus 5 $0.02513 $0.02513
Sonnet 5 $0.01005 $0.01005
Haiku 4.5 $0.00502 $0.00502

Security

Grade A, and why

excessibility CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

Excessibility is an Elixir library for accessibility snapshot testing in Phoenix applications. It captures HTML snapshots during tests and runs them through Pa11y for WCAG compliance checking.

Development Commands

Testing

# Run all tests
mix test

# Run specific test file
mix test test/snapshot_test.exs

# Run tests with a specific line number
mix test test/snapshot_test.exs:42

# Run tests in watch mode (interactive)
mix test.interactive

Linting & Formatting

# Run static analysis
mix credo

# Format code (using Styler)
mix format

Documentation

# Generate documentation
mix docs

# View docs locally
open doc/index.html

Accessibility Testing

# Run Pa11y on all existing snapshots
mix excessibility

# Run specific test + Pa11y on new snapshots
mix excessibility test/my_test.exs
mix excessibility test/my_test.exs:42
mix excessibility --only a11y

# Approve pending diffs interactively
mix excessibility.approve

# Approve all diffs as good (keep baseline)
mix excessibility.approve --keep good

# Approve all diffs as bad (accept new versions)
mix excessibility.approve --keep bad

Claude Workflow for Accessibility

When helping users write accessible Phoenix code, follow this workflow:

1. Add Snapshot Calls to Tests

For any LiveView or controller test, add html_snapshot() calls to capture rendered HTML:

defmodule MyAppWeb.PageLiveTest do
  use MyAppWeb.ConnCase
  use Excessibility # Required

test "page is accessible", %{conn: conn} do
    {:ok, view, _html} = live(conn, "/")

    # Capture snapshot for Pa11y
    html_snapshot(view)

    # Continue with assertions...
  end
end

2. Run Tests to Generate Snapshots

mix test test/my_app_web/live/page_live_test.exs

This creates HTML files in test/excessibility/html_snapshots/.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

excessibility CLAUDE.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository lessthanseventy/excessibility (42 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 5,025 tokens to every session, about $0.0251 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
