ai-instructions: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/instructions/spring-boot-cloud-config.instructions.md

ai-instructions spring-boot-cloud-config.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from lsampaioweb/ai-instructions. It costs 641 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of project rules for Spring Cloud Config servers and clients. Spring Cloud Config is a Spring system that stores application settings in a central repository and lets applications load them by name and environment.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when building a Config Server or configuring a Spring application to import settings from one. It covers the dependency bill of materials, Git repository paths, environment-based credentials, and client configuration import.
Why use it?
It keeps configuration dependencies, Git-backed settings, profiles, credentials, and protected configuration endpoints consistent. It also separates ordinary configuration from secrets, TLS, and security rules owned elsewhere.

Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

Written for GitHub Copilot: a Copilot instructions file.

This is lsampaioweb/ai-instructions's own configuration. It tells GitHub Copilot how to work on ai-instructions itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything ai-instructions configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00641 $0.00641
Opus 5.5 $0.00256 $0.00256
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00128 $0.00128
Haiku 4.5 $0.00064 $0.00064

Security

Grade A, and why

ai-instructions spring-boot-cloud-config.instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 60 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Spring Cloud Config Contract

Apply this contract when a module is a Spring Cloud Config Server or a Config client. Pom owns the Boot ↔ Cloud BOM train. Configuration owns profiles and secrets. TLS owns HTTPS keystores and trust. Security owns filter-chain style. Vault remains a separate secrets integration (Vault contract).

Shared dependency management

  • Import spring-cloud-dependencies as a BOM; choose the train from the pom contract (Boot 4.1.x: 2025.1.2 or newer). Do not pin Config Server/client artifact versions outside the BOM.

Config Server

  • Add spring-cloud-config-server and annotate the application with @EnableConfigServer.
  • Point spring.cloud.config.server.git.uri at the configuration Git repo (local file URI or remote URL). Prefer an environment override for the path or URL, and set cloneOnStart: true when the server should clone before serving.
  • Use search-paths: "{application}/{profile}" so spring.application.name + active profile select the right folder under the Git backend.
  • Protect client-facing config HTTP paths with authentication; supply server and client passwords from the environment (for example HTTP Basic with CONFIG_SERVER_* / CLOUD_CONFIG_CLIENT_*).
  • Development may serve plain HTTP. When the server serves HTTPS, follow the TLS contract for keystore settings.
  • Initialize the configuration Git backend before first run when using a fresh local repository (commit at least one application/profile tree).

Config client

  • Add spring-cloud-starter-config.
  • Set spring.application.name to the Git application folder name the server should serve.
  • Import Config Data with spring.config.import pointing at the Config Server URL (for example optional:configserver:http://localhost:8888 in development and an HTTPS URL in production).
  • Supply spring.cloud.config.username / password from the environment when the server requires auth; values must match the server.
  • Bind remote properties through @ConfigurationProperties in the feature package.
  • Keep context tests independent of a live Config Server (for example optional:configserver: import and spring.cloud.config.fail-fast=false in tests).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
