ai-instructions: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/instructions/spring-boot-mapstruct.instructions.md

ai-instructions spring-boot-mapstruct.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from lsampaioweb/ai-instructions. It costs 829 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of rules for MapStruct, a Java code generator that creates methods for copying data between related object types. It covers Maven setup and how generated mappers fit the application's architecture.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to configure MapStruct and its Maven processor, support it alongside Lombok, and create feature-level mappers for converting between application objects.
Why use it?
It prevents builds from silently missing the annotation processor that generates the mapper code. It also avoids putting data-conversion logic in controllers or services.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00829 $0.00829
Opus 5.5 $0.00332 $0.00332
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00166 $0.00166
Haiku 4.5 $0.00083 $0.00083

Security

Grade A, and why

ai-instructions spring-boot-mapstruct.instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 69 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Spring Boot MapStruct Contract

Apply this contract only when the module depends on org.mapstruct:mapstruct or a type is annotated with MapStruct's org.mapstruct.Mapper. Hand-written @Component mappers are allowed by the architecture contract and are not governed here.

Architecture owns mapper naming (<Feature>Mapper, never *DtoMapper), feature placement, and the ban on inline DTO mapping in controllers or services. Lombok owns lombok-mapstruct-binding and processor coexistence. Pom owns dependency comments and ordering.

Maven setup

  • Declare org.mapstruct:mapstruct with an explicit ${mapstruct.version} property (samples pin 1.6.3 today). MapStruct is not managed by the Spring Boot parent BOM.
  • Add a one-line purpose comment above the dependency (pom contract).
  • Place MapStruct in the third-party dependency group, alphabetically by artifactId.
  • Add mapstruct-processor to maven-compiler-plugin annotationProcessorPaths with the same ${mapstruct.version}. Do not omit the processor path: current Java does not load annotation processors from the compile classpath automatically.
  • When Lombok is also on the module, always add lombok-mapstruct-binding to annotationProcessorPaths and order the paths as: lombok, then lombok-mapstruct-binding, then mapstruct-processor (Lombok contract). Pin lombok-mapstruct-binding with an explicit property (samples use 0.2.0); Spring Boot's parent BOM does not manage that artifact.

Mapper type

  • Declare the mapper as a package-private interface annotated with @Mapper(componentModel = "spring", unmappedTargetPolicy = ReportingPolicy.ERROR).
  • Keep the mapper in the feature package beside the types it maps (architecture contract).
  • Let MapStruct generate the Spring bean; do not also annotate the interface with @Component or @Service.
  • Inject the mapper into the service implementation through the constructor; do not call Mappers.getMapper(...) in application code.

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
