What this is
An MCP server (stdio transport) that exposes a Victron Energy GX device to AI assistants as read-only tools, reading real-time data over Modbus TCP or MQTT on the local network. It is the local/LAN half of a pair; the cloud half is the separate victron-vrm-mcp repo. This package never speaks HTTP and is not reachable by the Anthropic MCP Connector directly.
Commands
After a fresh clone there is no node_modules — run npm install first or tsc/vitest fail with "command not found".

CI (.github/workflows/ci.yml) runs npm ci → build → test → smoke on Node 24. npm test alone will not catch a broken stdio handshake or transport regression — run npm run smoke before pushing. engines still declares >=18.0.0, so 18 remains the supported floor even though CI pins 24.

Node 18+. The project is ESM ("type": "module", tsconfig Node16): all relative imports must use the .js extension, even when importing a .ts source file.
