obsidian-vault-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

obsidian-vault-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from luffysolution-svg/obsidian-vault-mcp. It costs 390 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for a local workflow that moves research papers from Zotero, a reference manager, through MinerU, a document-processing tool, into Obsidian, a note-taking app. They define file paths, supported analysis tasks, tools, and safety rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Maintain the paper-import workflow, its MCP tools and skills, analysis notes, file layout, backups, transactions, and rollback behavior.
Why use it?
They preserve the project’s data relationships and prevent hidden writes, unsafe file handling, and broken note paths. This helps agents change the repository without violating its production contract.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00390 $0.00390
Opus 5 $0.00195 $0.00195
Sonnet 5 $0.00078 $0.00078
Haiku 4.5 $0.00039 $0.00039

Measured 9d ago against content hash a8f014b566fe, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

obsidian-vault-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Repository Agent Instructions

Production contract

This repository implements a local Zotero → MinerU → Obsidian literature workflow. Preserve these invariants:

  • A Zotero parent item is permanently identified by zoteroKey.
  • One parent item maps to one main note, normally Literature/{zoteroKey}.md.
  • Vault-visible paths are relative, portable, and use / separators.
  • MinerU output uses Literature/attachment/MinerU/{zoteroKey}.md and image/{zoteroKey}/{zoteroKey}-figNN.ext.
  • Analysis supports only full_read, literature_review, passage_qa, figure_qa, and concept.
  • Literature/Analysis/Analysis.base is the only Analysis database.
  • The public MCP surface contains exactly 31 tools, including the read-only literature_version contract tool.
  • The plugin distributes exactly 7 Skills: paper-qa, full-read, passage-qa, figure-qa, compare-papers, literature-review, and concept-learning.
  • Read operations must not perform hidden writes.
  • Writes must support dry-run, path checks, locks, backups, transactions, atomic replacement, and rollback where applicable.
  • Never hard-code machine-local paths, Vault data, tokens, or credentials.
  • Keep package, runtime, Registry, plugin, Pi, Tag, GitHub Release, and PyPI versions synchronized.

Required checks

uv sync --locked --all-extras
uv run python -m ruff check .
uv run python -m pytest
uv run python scripts/verify_release.py

cd adapters/pi
npm ci --no-audit --no-fund
npm run check

Use temporary or isolated Vaults for automated write tests. Do not modify a user's active Vault during testing.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
