CLAUDE.md

claude-memory-template CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from lukasz-fedor/claude-memory-template. It costs 1,104 tokens per session, scanned C, original, MIT.

A project instruction file that tells a coding agent how to keep session notes, follow work conventions, avoid guesses, and use a specific Git process.

In plain words
What is it for?
Resuming projects from handover notes, checking sources before writing, planning changes for approval, citing file-based facts, and following a pull, commit, and push workflow.
Why use it?
It keeps work consistent between sessions and reduces invented content or unsupported claims. It also makes changes easier to review before they are made.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01104 $0.01104
Opus 5 $0.00552 $0.00552
Sonnet 5 $0.00221 $0.00221
Haiku 4.5 $0.00110 $0.00110

Measured 8d ago against content hash 5ba0171f3a57, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade C, and why

claude-memory-template CLAUDE.md scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Hidden instructionshighPrompt injection

Directives inside HTML comments, invisible characters or bidirectional overrides are read by the model and not by the person reviewing the file.

<!-- CLAUDE.md is your project's main instruction file for Claude Code. It's always loaded into context. Keep it under 100 lines. Move domain-specific details to .claude/rules/ files with glob patterns. -->

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 117 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

My Project

Session Continuity

At the start of a session, read:

  • local/session-notes/HANDOVER-latest.md
  • local/session-notes/ (latest date file)
  • local/backlog.md Summarize context and ask the user whether to continue. For quick questions — skip and work directly.

Work Conventions

  • Always ask before generating content that doesn't exist in source files
  • Use placeholders ("TODO: content needed") for missing content — never invent
  • Check local/ for cached data before fetching from external sources
  • Before making changes: outline whatwherewhat it affects, wait for OK

Anti-Hallucination Protocol

  • Run date command before answering date-related questions
  • Numbers/statistics → show source: (source: filename.md:42)
  • When unsure → say "I don't have information about..." — NEVER guess

Git Workflow

<type>(<scope>): <description>

Types: feat, fix, docs, style, refactor, chore

Steps

  1. Before work: git pull origin main
  2. Make changes
  3. Stage files: git add <files> (avoid git add .)
  4. Commit: git commit -m "type(scope): description"
  5. Push: git push origin main

Safety

  • .env, .mcp.json, and local/ are in .gitignore — never commit to repo
  • Human-in-the-loop: never auto-publish or auto-approve without explicit OK

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
