AGENTS.md

python-substack AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from ma2za/python-substack. It costs 268 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for the Python Substack project. They tell coding agents to read the project’s shared memory and follow its release and Git policies before working.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to guide agent work on the repository, especially release preparation, release verification, and Git operations.
Why use it?
They provide consistent project context and prevent agents from skipping required repository procedures.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00268 $0.00268
Opus 5.5 $0.00107 $0.00107
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00054 $0.00054
Haiku 4.5 $0.00027 $0.00027

Security

Grade A, and why

python-substack AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 25d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Shared agent instructions

This file is the public source of guidance for any coding agent working in this repository. Read it before inspecting, changing, or running the project.

For a clean Linux checkout, follow CODEX_CLOUD.md and run:

bash scripts/codex-cloud-setup.sh
export PATH="$PWD/.tools/poetry/bin:$PATH"
poetry run pytest -q -m "not live" --strict-markers

Keep live-test opt-ins unset for ordinary development. Live Substack operations require authorization and must never publish test content.

Keep the repository public. Never change repository visibility unless the user explicitly requests that change for this repository.

Maintainer guidance, the release roadmap, and optional workflows are tracked and available in every clone. Read the relevant files:

  • RELEASE_PLAN.md records the release roadmap and handover context.
  • .agents/PROJECT_GUIDANCE.md defines project maintenance requirements.
  • .agents/commands/release/prepare.toml defines release preparation.
  • .agents/commands/release/verify.toml defines release verification.
  • .agents/policies/git-override.toml records repository Git tool policy.

Tool policies never override the user's request, the host's permissions, or higher-priority safety instructions.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
