dataverse-cli CLAUDE.md

Repository instructions for Dataverse CLI, a Rust command-line program for querying X/Twitter and Reddit data through the Macrocosmos API. They describe its commands, configuration, API client, and output formats.

In plain words
What is it for?
Developing, building, testing, configuring, and using commands for social-media searches and data-collection tasks.
Why use it?
They give the assistant the command structure and data flow needed to change the tool without guessing how authentication, requests, or output work.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00747 $0.00747
Opus 5 $0.00374 $0.00374
Sonnet 5 $0.00149 $0.00149
Haiku 4.5 $0.00075 $0.00075

Measured 2d ago against content hash 74624fa89f45, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

dataverse-cli CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Dataverse CLI

Rust CLI for querying social media data from X/Twitter and Reddit via the Macrocosmos SN13 API (Bittensor Data Universe subnet).

Quick Reference

  • Binary: dv
  • Language: Rust 2021 edition
  • Build: cargo build / cargo build --release
  • Run: cargo run -- <command>
  • Test: cargo test

API Details

  • Base URL: https://constellation.api.cloud.macrocosmos.ai
  • Protocol: gRPC-Web JSON transcoding over HTTPS (HTTP/2 required — ALB returns 464 on HTTP/1.1)
  • Auth: Authorization: Bearer <api_key> header
  • Services:
    • sn13.v1.Sn13Service/OnDemandData — real-time social data queries
    • gravity.v1.GravityService/* — large-scale data collection tasks

Key Design Decisions

  • HTTP/2 required: The Macrocosmos ALB target group requires HTTP/2. reqwest must have the http2 feature enabled; http1_only() will cause 464 errors.
  • Nested response fields: X post data nests under user.* and tweet.* (e.g., user.username, tweet.like_count). The display layer uses dot-path extraction.
  • Stdout/stderr discipline: Data goes to stdout, diagnostics/errors to stderr.
  • Config file permissions: 0600 on Unix.
  • API key resolution order: --api-key flag > MC_API env > MACROCOSMOS_API_KEY env > config file.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
