maid-runner-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

maid-runner-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from mamertofabian/maid-runner-mcp. It costs 3,110 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for MAID Runner MCP, a server that gives coding agents validation tools through the Model Context Protocol, a standard way for tools to communicate with agents.

In plain words
What is it for?
Planning and validating MAID Runner changes, limiting edits to approved files, and running the required tests and checks.
Why use it?
They require every code change to follow a defined process of setting a goal, writing a plan and tests, validating them, and then implementing the change.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.03110 $0.03110
Opus 5 $0.01555 $0.01555
Sonnet 5 $0.00622 $0.00622
Haiku 4.5 $0.00311 $0.00311

Security

Grade A, and why

maid-runner-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

⚠️ CRITICAL: This project dogfoods MAID v1.2. Every code change MUST follow the MAID workflow.

Project Overview

MAID Runner MCP is a Model Context Protocol server that exposes MAID Runner validation tools to AI agents. It provides MCP tools, resources, and prompts for seamless integration with AI development tools like Claude Code.

MAID Workflow (Required for ALL changes)

Phase 1: Goal Definition

Confirm the high-level goal with user before proceeding.

Phase 2: Planning Loop

Before ANY implementation - iterative refinement:

  1. Draft manifest (manifests/task-XXX.manifest.json) - PRIMARY CONTRACT
  2. Draft behavioral tests (tests/test_task_XXX_*.py) to support and verify the manifest
  3. Run structural validation (checks manifest↔tests AND implementation↔history): uv run maid validate manifests/task-XXX.manifest.json --use-manifest-chain
  4. Refine BOTH tests & manifest together until validation passes

Phase 3: Implementation

  1. Load ONLY files from manifest (editableFiles + readonlyFiles)
  2. Implement code to pass tests
  3. Run behavioral validation (from validationCommand)
  4. Iterate until all tests pass

Phase 3.5: Refactoring

  1. After tests pass, improve code quality
  2. Maintain public API and manifest compliance
  3. Apply clean code principles and patterns
  4. Validate tests still pass after each change

Phase 4: Integration

Verify complete chain: uv run python -m pytest tests/ -v

Key Rules

NEVER: Modify code without manifest | Skip validation | Access unlisted files ALWAYS: Manifest first → Tests → Implementation → Validate

Quick Commands

# Find next manifest number
ls manifests/task-*.manifest.json | tail -1

# Validation Flow
# 1. Structural validation (pre-implementation)
uv run maid validate manifests/task-XXX.manifest.json --use-manifest-chain

# 2. Behavioral test execution (run actual tests)
uv run python -m pytest tests/test_task_XXX_*.py -v

# Full test suite
make test # or: uv run python -m pytest tests/ -v

# Code quality
make lint # Run ruff linter
make format # Format code with black
make type-check # Run mypy type checking
make validate # Validate all manifests

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
