mangrove-agent: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

mangrove-agent AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from MangroveTechnologies/mangrove-agent. It costs 167 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A repository instruction entry that tells coding agents to read `SAGE.md` and its required rule documents before responding.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for setting startup behaviour in Mangrove Agent and compatible coding-agent clients.
Why use it?
It makes the agent load the project's shared persona, context, and operating rules rather than relying on duplicated or incomplete instructions.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions AGENTS.md; mentions Codex.

This is MangroveTechnologies/mangrove-agent's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on mangrove-agent itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything mangrove-agent configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00167 $0.00167
Opus 5.5 $0.00067 $0.00067
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00033 $0.00033
Haiku 4.5 $0.00017 $0.00017

Security

Grade A, and why

mangrove-agent AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Mangrove Agent - Codex and compatible clients

Before responding, read SAGE.md in this repository and follow its startup contract, including the three mandatory rule documents. Resolve their paths from the repository root. SAGE.md is the single shared source for the agent persona, project context, and operating instructions; do not maintain a separate copy here. Grok Build and other clients that discover AGENTS.md use this same entry point. If another native entry point already loaded these sources, do not load them twice.

For clients without local file access, use the complete generated bundle at docs/clients/sage-instructions.md, as described in docs/clients.md. A pointer alone does not load its target, and instructions alone do not connect MCP tools.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
