Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02792 $0.02792
Opus 5 $0.01396 $0.01396
Sonnet 5 $0.00558 $0.00558
Haiku 4.5 $0.00279 $0.00279

Measured 7d ago against content hash f11a112babb5, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

mcp-apple-notes-py CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Apple Notes MCP Desktop Extension - Project Guidelines

This document contains project-specific guidelines for working on the Apple Notes MCP Desktop Extension.

Project Overview

This is a Desktop Extension (DXT) that provides access to Apple Notes through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It allows AI assistants to list and retrieve notes from local Apple Notes.app on macOS.

Development Guidelines

Development Workflow

  • Always commit your work at logical points along the way
  • IMPORTANT: Always update CHANGELOG.md before committing significant changes
    • Add new features to the "Unreleased" section with proper categorization
    • Use format: Added/Changed/Deprecated/Removed/Fixed/Security
    • Follow Keep a Changelog format
  • Run tests before committing: uv run pytest tests/ -v
  • Check code quality before pushing: ensure no deprecated notes() usage

Package Management

  • Use UV: Always use uv for dependency management and virtual environment handling
  • Sync dependencies: Run uv sync to install/update dependencies
  • Add dependencies: Use uv add <package> to add new dependencies
  • IMPORTANT: When adding new dependencies, also update scripts/package_dxt.py to include them in the bundled DXT package dependencies list

Code Standards

  • Python Version: Requires Python 3.13 or higher
  • Type Hints: Use comprehensive type hints throughout the codebase
  • Error Handling: Implement defensive programming with comprehensive error handling
  • Logging: Use structured logging with appropriate levels (INFO, DEBUG, WARNING, ERROR)

MCP Server Implementation

  • FastMCP: Use the FastMCP framework for server implementation
  • Tool Definitions: All tools must have proper docstrings and type annotations
  • Input Validation: Validate all input parameters with appropriate bounds
  • Structured Responses: Return consistent JSON responses with metadata

DXT Compliance

  • Manifest: Follow DXT manifest specification exactly
  • Platform Support: macOS only due to Apple Notes.app requirement
  • Packaging: Ensure all dependencies are bundled for distribution
  • Security: Implement proper security measures and timeout management

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
