Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.01264 | $0.01264 |
| Opus 5 | $0.00632 | $0.00632 |
| Sonnet 5 | $0.00253 | $0.00253 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00126 | $0.00126 |
Grade A, and why
stoat-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 94 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Build and Test Commands
pip install -e ".[dev]" # Install with dev dependencies
pytest # Run all tests
pytest tests/tools/test_channels.py # Run a single test file
pytest tests/tools/test_channels.py::test_list_channels_returns_all_channels # Single test
pytest -v # Verbose output
CI runs pytest on Python 3.11 and 3.12 via GitHub Actions.
Architecture
This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for the Stoat chat platform (formerly Revolt). It lets AI assistants read channels, messages, users, and DMs from a Stoat server via structured tools.
Key Libraries
- FastMCP (
fastmcp>=3.0) — MCP server framework. Tools are registered with@mcp.tool()decorators. - stoat.py (
stoat.py>=1.2) — Async client library for the Stoat API. All API calls are async. - pydantic-settings — Config loaded from
STOAT_environment variables.
Module Dependency Flow
server.py (FastMCP instance + lifespan)
├── config.py (Config model, env vars)
├── client.py (stoat.Client factory)
├── safety.py (write guards, channel filters)
├── formatting.py (markdown helpers, timestamp, hydration)
└── tools/*.py (each imports `mcp` from server.py)
server.py creates the mcp = FastMCP(...) instance and the lifespan context that yields {"config", "client", "server"}. Tool modules import mcp from server and register themselves via @mcp.tool(). Tools are registered by import side-effect — server.py has from .tools import channels, messages, ... after the mcp definition.
Lifespan context is how tools access runtime state. Every tool receives ctx: Context and reads from ctx.request_context.lifespan_context["config"], ["client"], or ["server"].
Safety Model
All write operations are disabled by default. Two layers of safety guards in safety.py:
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

stoat-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository mdlopresti/stoat-mcp (0 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 1,264 tokens to every session, about $0.0063 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
