Written for Claude Code and Codex and OpenCode: SessionStart hook event, but also the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: reads .claude/ paths; mentions Claude Code; mentions Codex.

This is MeenakshiSundaram-MS/prove-it's own configuration. It tells Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode how to work on prove-it itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything prove-it configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.03700 $0.03700
Opus 5 $0.01850 $0.01850
Sonnet 5 $0.00740 $0.00740
Haiku 4.5 $0.00370 $0.00370

Security

Grade B, and why

prove-it AGENTS.md scanned grade B with 3 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

What gets installed

Four hook files are written to ~/.claude/hooks/ and three entries are merged into ~/.claude/settings.json:

Hook type File What it does
SessionStart prove-it-activate.js Detects your project's language and test framework, emits PROVE-IT ACTIVE context block at the start of every session
UserPromptSubmit prove-it-mode-tracker.js Parses /prove-it commands and updates the active mode
statusLine prove-it-statusline.js Adds a blue [PROVE-IT] badge to the Claude Code status bar

Install

macOS / Linux — direct curl (no clone required):

bash <(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MeenakshiSundaram-MS/prove-it/main/hooks/install.sh)

Windows — PowerShell one-liner (no clone required):

irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MeenakshiSundaram-MS/prove-it/main/hooks/install.ps1 | iex

From a local clone (any platform):

git clone https://github.com/MeenakshiSundaram-MS/prove-it.git
cd prove-it
# macOS / Linux:
bash hooks/install.sh
# Windows:
.\hooks\install.ps1

Reinstall / overwrite existing:

# macOS / Linux:
bash hooks/install.sh --force
# Windows:
.\hooks\install.ps1 -Force

Verify the install

Run the verify command to confirm all hooks and settings are registered:

npx @developed-by-ms/prove-it verify

Or check manually:

  1. Start a new Claude Code session (existing sessions don't pick up new hooks).
  2. You should see this block near the top of the first response:

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
