blockwatch: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

blockwatch AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from mennanov/blockwatch. It costs 5,693 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for coding agents working on BlockWatch, a Rust command-line linter that checks rules written inside source-file comments. The instructions cover project structure, commands, testing, formatting, and linting.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when developing or reviewing BlockWatch, including building the Rust program, running its tests, formatting code, and checking lint errors.
Why use it?
They give agents the project's expected commands and working rules instead of requiring them to infer how the repository is built and checked.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions .claude-plugin; mentions CLAUDE.md; mentions Claude Code.

This is mennanov/blockwatch's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on blockwatch itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything blockwatch configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.05693 $0.05693
Opus 5.5 $0.02277 $0.02277
Sonnet 5.5 $0.01139 $0.01139
Haiku 4.5 $0.00569 $0.00569

Security

Grade A, and why

blockwatch AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 312 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

AGENTS.md

This file tells AI coding agents how to work in this repository. Every agent reads the same file. CLAUDE.md is a symlink to it, because Claude Code only looks for CLAUDE.md.

Project

blockwatch is a linter written in Rust and published on crates.io. It works with any language. Rules are written as HTML-like <block ...> tags inside code comments, and blockwatch checks them. It can check the whole repository, or only the lines changed in a unified diff piped into it.

Common commands

cargo run -- list '<path or glob>' # print the blocks parsed from matching files, as JSON
cargo llvm-cov # run the tests and report coverage
cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings # lint
cargo test --doc # run the examples in the doc comments (cargo llvm-cov skips them)
RUSTDOCFLAGS="-D warnings" cargo doc --no-deps --document-private-items # check the doc comments
markdownlint-cli2 # lint Markdown (config: .markdownlint-cli2.yaml)
pre-commit run --all-files # run every hook the repository installs

Fuzzing lives in fuzz/. It needs the nightly toolchain and cargo-afl. See fuzz/README.md.

Integration tests use assert_cmd to run the built binary on the fixtures in tests/testdata/. Many of them also pipe a made-up diff into stdin. When you add a test, follow the pattern in tests/<validator>.rs. Build the command with common::cargo_bin_cmd!. It passes an empty config, because this repository's blockwatch.toml skips tests/testdata/. Clippy rejects assert_cmd::cargo_bin_cmd!, so a test can't read that file by mistake.

Rules for agents

You must follow every rule below, at all times.

Writing style

These rules apply to everything you write, with no exceptions: code comments, doc comments, --help text, error messages, docs, CHANGELOG.md, commit messages, and your replies to the human in chat.

  • Always write so that each sentence is understood on the first read. If a sentence needs a second read, split it or say it more simply.
  • Always use short sentences, one idea each, and everyday words.
  • Always say the concrete thing. Name the file, flag or value instead of describing it in the abstract.
  • Always say what happens, such as what passes or fails, rather than naming a property like "order-insensitive".
  • Never use jargon or formal framing, such as "hold for", "as opposed to", "govern" or "self-describes". Use the plain word instead.
  • Prefer an example when it is shorter than the explanation.
  • Prefer a short list or a table to a long sentence with several clauses.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
