pylon-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

pylon-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from mgmonteleone/pylon-mcp. It costs 1,574 tokens per session, scanned A, original, from a forked repository, MIT.

Project-specific instructions for developing a TypeScript server that connects coding tools to Pylon, a customer-support and helpdesk platform. The server exposes Pylon's API through the Model Context Protocol, a standard way for AI tools to use external tools and data.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for making changes to the Pylon integration, including its API client, server tools, configuration, and build or deployment files.
Why use it?
It gives an agent the project structure, technologies, authentication details, caching setup, and API coverage it needs to work consistently.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01574 $0.01574
Opus 5 $0.00787 $0.00787
Sonnet 5 $0.00315 $0.00315
Haiku 4.5 $0.00157 $0.00157

Security

Grade A, and why

pylon-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Claude Development Guide

This document provides context for Claude when working on the Pylon MCP Server project.

Project Overview

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that provides comprehensive integration with the Pylon API. Pylon is a customer support and helpdesk platform, and this server exposes 26+ tools covering all major API functionality.

Architecture

  • Language: TypeScript with Node.js runtime
  • MCP Framework: @modelcontextprotocol/sdk
  • HTTP Client: Axios for API communication
  • Caching: In-memory cache with configurable TTL (default 30s)
  • Build System: TypeScript compiler
  • Deployment: npm registry

Key Files

  • src/pylon-client.ts - Pylon API client with authentication and all endpoint methods
  • src/index.ts - MCP server implementation with tool definitions and handlers
  • package.json - Dependencies and build scripts

API Coverage

The server implements comprehensive Pylon API coverage:

Authentication & Configuration

  • Base URL: https://api.usepylon.com
  • Authentication: Bearer JWT tokens
  • Environment variables:
    • PYLON_API_TOKEN (required): API authentication token
    • PYLON_CACHE_TTL (optional): Cache TTL in milliseconds (default: 30000)
      • Set to 0 to disable caching
      • Applies only to GET requests
    • PYLON_DEBUG (optional): Set to true to enable debug logging
      • Logs all request methods, URLs, and payloads
      • Logs all response status codes and data
      • Logs error details for failed requests
      • Outputs to stderr for easy separation from normal output
    • PYLON_RETRY_MAX (optional): Maximum retry attempts for transient failures (default: 3)
      • Set to 0 to disable retries
      • Retries on: 429 (rate limit), 5xx (server error), timeout
      • Only retries idempotent requests (GET, HEAD, OPTIONS, PUT, DELETE)
      • POST and PATCH requests are NOT retried to prevent duplicate operations
      • Uses exponential backoff with jitter
      • Respects Retry-After header (capped at 30 seconds)

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
