mhl-core-runtime: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

mhl-core-runtime AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from mh-language/mhl-core-runtime. It costs 599 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for a Go runtime project, including its module layout, command-line entry point, packages, tests, build commands, release checks, and formatting rules. Go is a programming language used here for the runtime and CLI.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when developing, testing, formatting, building, or preparing releases for the mhl-core-runtime Go repository.
Why use it?
They help an agent find the right code and use the repository's expected build, test, formatting, and release commands. This reduces mistakes caused by guessing the project structure or verification process.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00599 $0.00599
Opus 5.5 $0.00240 $0.00240
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00120 $0.00120
Haiku 4.5 $0.00060 $0.00060

Security

Grade A, and why

mhl-core-runtime AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Repository Guidelines

Project Structure & Module Organization

The main implementation is the Go module in src/mhl-runtime (github.com/mh-language/mhl-core-runtime). The CLI entry point is cmd/mhl/main.go; packages live under internal/, including parser, ast, runtime, mcp, auth, traffic, and tools. Go tests sit beside the code they cover. End-to-end tests and .mhl examples are in test/e2e and test/fixtures. dist/ contains generated binaries, vscode-mhl/ contains editor support, and specs/ contains documentation.

Build, Test, and Development Commands

Run commands for the runtime from src/mhl-runtime:

make build # Build dist/mhl
make test # Run all Go tests
./verify-feature.sh <id> # Build, vet, and test the runtime
make release # Cross-compile Linux, macOS, and Windows binaries
make verify-release # Build release targets and verify they are non-empty

For focused iteration, use go test ./internal/parser or go test -run TestName ./.... Run gofmt on changed Go files before submitting.

Coding Style & Naming Conventions

Use idiomatic Go formatted with gofmt, tabs for indentation, documented exported identifiers, and small package-focused changes. Name Go files and packages in lowercase; use snake_case only where existing filenames require it. Tests use _test.go; prefer table-driven cases for parser and runtime behavior. Keep .mhl fixture names descriptive and versioned like test/fixtures/3.*.

Testing Guidelines

The project uses Go’s standard testing package. Add tests alongside implementation changes and update fixtures when syntax or semantics change. Run go test ./... and go vet ./...; use ./verify-feature.sh for the complete verification path. No coverage threshold is configured, but new behavior should include regression coverage, especially for parsing, credentials, subprocesses, MCP, retries, and state redaction.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
