rayfin: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/instructions/rayfin-cli.instructions.md

rayfin rayfin-cli.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from microsoft/rayfin. It costs 2,048 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of project instructions for developing and testing the Rayfin command-line package, a tool used to create, run, and deploy Rayfin projects. It documents the package layout, commands, and template files.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when working on the Rayfin CLI, its development and deployment commands, its documentation command, or its template and asset files.
Why use it?
It gives an agent project-specific rules instead of making it infer how this package is organised. This helps keep changes and tests aligned with the repository's conventions.

About the project

Rayfin is a managed Backend-as-a-Service platform that creates and operates application backends from data models defined with TypeScript decorators. It provides databases, authentication, APIs, storage, and hosting for teams building applications. Its catalogue skill and plugin help coding agents create and work with Rayfin projects.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02048 $0.02048
Opus 5.5 $0.00819 $0.00819
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00410 $0.00410
Haiku 4.5 $0.00205 $0.00205

Security

Grade A, and why

rayfin rayfin-cli.instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Rayfin CLI Package Instructions

This document provides guidance for developing and testing the Rayfin CLI package (@microsoft/rayfin-cli).

Package Overview

The Rayfin CLI is the command-line interface for the Rayfin platform, providing tools for project initialization, development, and deployment operations.

Location: packages/tools/cli/

Key Commands:

  • rayfin init - Initialize a new Rayfin project
  • rayfin dev - Development server and local operations (requires RAYFIN_FEATURE_FLAGS=docker-local-dev; includes db, storage, watch subcommands)
  • rayfin up - Deploy to cloud services (includes db, storage subcommands)
  • rayfin docs - Query version-locked docs from Rayfin packages installed in the current project
  • rayfin init ai-files install - Install or refresh Rayfin agent files (AGENTS.md, .mcp.json, .agents/skills/)
  • rayfin init ai-files status - Report managed Rayfin agent-file state

Assets Folder and Template System

Assets Directory Structure

The CLI uses an assets folder for template files and static resources:

packages/tools/cli/
├── assets/
│   ├── .gitignore.template          # Git ignore template
│   ├── docker-compose.yml           # Docker compose configuration
│   └── agent-files/                 # AGENTS.md, .mcp.json entry, and Rayfin skill assets
├── src/
│   └── commands/
│       └── init.ts                  # Contains template loading logic
└── dist/                            # Compiled output

Template File Conventions

File Naming:

  • Use .template extension for template files (e.g., .gitignore.template)
  • Use descriptive names that match their target files
  • For files without extensions, use the full filename (e.g., docker-compose.yml)

Template Loading Pattern:

async function createContentFromTemplate(): Promise<string> {
  const assetsDir = resolve(__dirname, '..', '..', 'assets');
  const templatePath = join(assetsDir, 'template-file.template');

  try {
    const templateContent = await readFile(templatePath, 'utf8');
    return templateContent;
  } catch (error) {
    console.warn(
      '⚠️ Warning: Could not read template, using fallback content'
    );
    // Provide minimal fallback content
    return 'fallback content';
  }
}

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
