AGENTS.md

codex-profiles AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from midhunmonachan/codex-profiles. It costs 721 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of repository instructions for Codex Profiles, a project that stores and loads account credentials in named profiles.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing credential handling, configuration lookup, usage parsing, privacy rules, or project documentation in that repository.
Why use it?
It gives contributors rules for preserving existing behavior, handling unsupported credential stores safely, and keeping documentation and tests aligned with changes.

This is midhunmonachan/codex-profiles's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on codex-profiles itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything codex-profiles configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00721 $0.00721
Opus 5.5 $0.00288 $0.00288
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00144 $0.00144
Haiku 4.5 $0.00072 $0.00072

Measured 1mo ago against content hash 3805b7134443, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

codex-profiles AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Repository guidance

Read CONTRIBUTING.md and docs/compatibility.md before changing behavior. Check current issues and pull requests before starting nontrivial work, and agree on feature scope through an issue or discussion. Keep changes focused and update documentation and regression tests when behavior changes.

Keep current project status and outstanding decisions in docs/next-version.md. Update that record when work ships or scope is agreed; separate current status from dated historical research.

Supported behavior

Codex Profiles manages file-backed account credentials. Preserve CODEX_HOME resolution, existing saved profiles, and refusals for unsupported credential stores and authentication modes. --force must not bypass those refusals.

Account profiles are distinct from native Codex configuration profiles. Save/load currently handles authentication only. Optional config snapshots are a design proposal; unresolved design choices are not implemented behavior. Keep encrypted-export design separate from snapshot storage and restoration.

Before changing credential handling, refresh, configuration lookup, or usage parsing, check current official OpenAI documentation and relevant openai/codex source. Internal types alone do not establish a supported app-server method. Record reviewed revisions and limits in docs/compatibility.md. Advance .github/codex-compatibility.json only after reviewing upstream changes.

Validation and privacy

Use synthetic credentials, temporary Codex homes, and loopback servers in tests. Never use live accounts or real auth files in automated checks. Keep real credentials, private paths, personal contact details, and session history out of fixtures, logs, commits, and reports. Use portable paths and clearly synthetic examples in public documentation. Bound concurrency-test waits and control request timing explicitly.

Use the pinned Rust toolchain and run make precommit. For automation changes, also run python3 -B scripts/test-automation.py and relevant script tests. Coverage has no minimum percentage; preserve meaningful real-I/O and concurrency tests and do not exclude production code to improve the metric.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
