craft-skills: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

craft-skills CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from mikestangdevs/craft-skills. It costs 1,702 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for Craft Skills, a collection of Markdown files that teach Claude Code how to handle code-quality tasks. Claude Code is an AI coding assistant.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when editing skills, updating related templates or manifests, and validating the plugin with the documented command.
Why use it?
They define how the plugin's manifests and skill files must agree, reducing packaging errors and unnecessary implementation work.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01702 $0.01702
Opus 5 $0.00851 $0.00851
Sonnet 5 $0.00340 $0.00340
Haiku 4.5 $0.00170 $0.00170

Security

Grade A, and why

craft-skills CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

CLAUDE.md

This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

What this repo is

craft-skills is a Claude Code plugin: a curated collection of agent Skills, not a runnable application. There is no source to compile and no runtime — each skill is a Markdown file (SKILL.md) of instructions an agent loads on demand. "Building" here means keeping the two manifests and the skill files mutually consistent and passing the official plugin validator.

The thesis (see README.md): skills for "code you'll have to live with" — targeting legibility and restraint, the parts of code quality agents are worst at, deliberately not the typing/refactor lane.

Commands

# Validate the plugin + marketplace manifests (the closest thing to a build/test)
claude plugin validate .

There is no test runner, linter, or build step. The validator checks .claude-plugin/marketplace.json; for the plugin itself, correctness is verified by the consistency invariants below.

Architecture

Two manifests in .claude-plugin/ and one directory of skills:

  • .claude-plugin/plugin.json — the plugin manifest. The skills array lists each skill by its individual directory path (e.g. ./skills/craft/explain-back), not a parent dir. This explicit form is valid and is how skills get registered; a skill that isn't in this array won't load.
  • .claude-plugin/marketplace.json — the marketplace manifest so /plugin marketplace add mikestangdevs/craft-skills works. It references this same repo as a single plugin via "source": "./".
  • skills/<bucket>/<name>/SKILL.md — one skill per directory. Buckets (craft/, setup/) are organizational only; Claude Code invokes a skill by its leaf directory name regardless of bucket.

Bucket organization & governance

Skills live in buckets under skills/. Buckets are one of two kinds:

  • Shipped buckets (currently craft/, setup/) — skills that are part of the published plugin. Every skill in a shipped bucket must be referenced in both the top-level README.md and .claude-plugin/plugin.json.
  • Staging buckets (in-progress/, deprecated/, personal/) — not created yet; add one only when you actually have a skill to park there. Skills in a staging bucket must appear in neither README.md nor plugin.json — staging lets you draft or retire skills in-repo without shipping them.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
