api-mapper CLAUDE.md

api-mapper CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for coding agents from mikkelkrogsholm/api-mapper. It costs 854 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for API Mapper, a Chrome extension that records website network requests and exports them as OpenAPI specifications.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when developing or modifying API Mapper's request capture, filtering, API-document generation, cURL export, or security code.
Why use it?
They document the extension's architecture and important implementation constraints, including communication between its background script and DevTools panel.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00854 $0.00854
Opus 5 $0.00427 $0.00427
Sonnet 5 $0.00171 $0.00171
Haiku 4.5 $0.00085 $0.00085

Security

Grade A, and why

api-mapper CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Project Overview

API Mapper is a Chrome Extension that captures and documents API calls from websites. It adds a panel to Chrome DevTools that monitors network requests and exports them as OpenAPI 3.0 specifications.

Architecture

Core Components

  1. Background Script (background.js)

    • Uses Chrome's webRequest API to intercept XHR and Fetch requests
    • Maintains a Map of API endpoints with their captured data
    • Implements memory management to limit stored data
    • Communicates with DevTools panel via Chrome runtime messaging
    • Critical: Must include chrome.runtime.sendMessage() to send updates to panel
  2. DevTools Panel (panel.js)

    • Main UI logic displaying captured API calls
    • Implements filtering by host, method, and search text
    • Generates OpenAPI 3.0 specifications from captured data
    • Uses port-based messaging for initial connection and runtime messaging for updates
    • Creates cURL commands with optional complete header capture
  3. Security & Configuration (config.js)

    • Contains SecurityUtils object for sanitizing sensitive data
    • Configurable limits for memory management
    • Lists of sensitive headers and parameters to redact

Key Technical Constraints

  1. Manifest V3 Limitations

    • Cannot modify request headers in webRequest API
    • Must use host_permissions: ["<all_urls>"] not in permissions array
    • Background script runs as service worker
  2. Chrome Extension Messaging

    • Sets cannot be serialized - must convert to Arrays before sending
    • Panel receives updates via both port messages and runtime messages
    • Background script must handle connection/disconnection gracefully
  3. OpenAPI Generation

    • Must use valid JSON Schema types only (string, number, boolean, object, array)
    • Use either 'example' OR 'examples' in parameters, never both
    • Path parameters are detected from numeric IDs and UUIDs

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
