CLAUDE.md

ballot-endorsement-guide CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from MisterClean/ballot-endorsement-guide. It costs 316 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for a Next.js application that looks up ballot endorsements by address or map coordinates. It describes the app structure, lookup process, data files, and required map-service settings.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when developing, testing, building, or configuring the ballot-lookup application. It helps with geocoding, district-boundary lookups, endorsement data, and provider API keys.
Why use it?
It gives a coding agent the project context needed to change the right files and understand how an address becomes a district and endorsement result.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00316 $0.00316
Opus 5 $0.00158 $0.00158
Sonnet 5 $0.00063 $0.00063
Haiku 4.5 $0.00032 $0.00032

Measured 10d ago against content hash 429b56995d9d, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ballot-endorsement-guide CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Architecture

Next.js full-stack app for ballot endorsement lookup by address or coordinates.

Core flow:

  1. Address autocomplete and reverse geocoding are provider-backed via /api/autocomplete and /api/reverse.
  2. /api/lookup accepts address or lat/lng.
  3. Coordinates are validated against configured jurisdiction bounds.
  4. Turf.js point-in-polygon resolves district layers.
  5. Endorsements are matched from frontend/data/endorsements.yaml.

Important Files

  • frontend/src/lib/app-config.ts: org branding + jurisdiction + map layer config
  • frontend/src/lib/services.ts: district lookup and endorsement matching logic
  • frontend/src/lib/geocoding/: geocoder provider implementations
  • frontend/src/app/api/lookup/route.ts: main lookup endpoint
  • frontend/data/district-maps/: district boundary GeoJSON packs
  • frontend/data/endorsements.yaml: endorsement dataset

Environment Variables

Set exactly one based on the selected provider:

  • GEOCODE_EARTH_API_KEY
  • MAPBOX_ACCESS_TOKEN
  • GOOGLE_MAPS_API_KEY
  • GEOAPIFY_API_KEY

Deployment

railway.toml and Dockerfile are configured for Railway-compatible Docker deploys.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
