gdb-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

gdb-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from Mistyovo/gdb-mcp. It costs 326 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

An AGENTS.md guide for gdb-mcp, an add-on that lets an agent work with GDB, the GNU debugger used to inspect running programs and binaries. It also documents issue tracking, domain notes, test commands, and rules for real-debugger integration tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for binary debugging, testing debugger integration, tracking engineering issues, and handling binary-exploitation work.
Why use it?
It separates ordinary tests from tests that need GDB and specifies the repository's workflow and checks. This helps avoid unsupported test methods and keeps debugging work aligned with the project rules.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00326 $0.00326
Opus 5.5 $0.00130 $0.00130
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00065 $0.00065
Haiku 4.5 $0.00033 $0.00033

Security

Grade A, and why

gdb-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 20d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

gdb-mcp agent notes

Give your coding agent hands on a real GDB — built for binary exploitation. See README.md for the product surface; this file is the agent-workflow configuration for the engineering skills.

Agent skills

Issue tracker

Issues and specs live as local markdown under .scratch/ (no gh CLI on this machine). See docs/agents/issue-tracker.md.

Triage labels

The five canonical triage roles, used verbatim as Status: strings. See docs/agents/triage-labels.md.

Domain docs

Single-context layout (GLOSSARY.md + docs/adr/, created lazily); ROADMAP_V2.md decision sections count as ADRs. See docs/agents/domain.md.

Repo ground rules (mirror of README/CI)

  • Unit tests run on Windows with no gdb: python -m pytest tests/ -q (exit code must be checked explicitly — never trust a piped tail).
  • ruff check src tests bench must stay clean.
  • Real-gdb suites live under tests/integration/ and run in WSL2 or CI; the policy family's resume/stop semantics are pinned by run_policy_smoke.sh (see src/gdb_mcp/plugin/gdb_mcp_plugin.py, _policy_drive docstring, for the three verified gdb facts).
  • Experimental features are CLI-gated only (--experimental); never add environment-variable paths for them.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
