kernel-design-agents CLAUDE.md

kernel-design-agents CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for coding agents from mit-han-lab/kernel-design-agents. It costs 319 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for kernel-design-agents, including agent guidance, project rules, and the expected way to work in the codebase.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when working on the mit-han-lab/kernel-design-agents project.
Why use it?
They give a coding agent the local context needed to make changes that follow the repository's conventions.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00319 $0.00319
Opus 5 $0.00160 $0.00160
Sonnet 5 $0.00064 $0.00064
Haiku 4.5 $0.00032 $0.00032

Measured 4d ago against content hash c33c2d34d27f, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

kernel-design-agents CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Agent Instructions

This repository is the generic Kernel Design Agents workflow reference. It should stay small and task-agnostic.

Repository Rules

  • Use English for repository-facing files, comments, documentation, prompts, and commit messages.
  • Keep task-specific prompts, datasets, validators, generated implementations, benchmark logs, and candidate artifacts out of this repository.
  • Treat benchmark competitions, including MLSys-style work, as downstream applications of KDA rather than as the scope of this repository.
  • Put generated outputs in runs/, outputs/, or profile/; these paths are ignored by git.
  • Prefer documenting reusable workflow mechanics over documenting one task's private harness or acceptance thresholds.

Expected Agent Workflow

For a new task:

  1. Create or enter a separate implementation workspace.
  2. Define the task objective, constraints, validation command, and promotion criteria.
  3. Use prompts/basic-flow.md as the starter prompt.
  4. Read local task code and documentation before proposing implementation changes.
  5. Write the initial plan draft to docs/draft.md inside the task workspace.
  6. Convert the draft into an executable plan.
  7. Implement in small iterations, validating each meaningful candidate.
  8. Record candidate relationships, evaluation results, and profiling evidence when applicable.
  9. Keep this repository focused on the reusable flow.

Optional Skills

Use external skills only when they are relevant to the active task:

  • humanize for plan generation and implementation loops.
  • A domain knowledge skill for background research.
  • A profiling or report-analysis skill for performance evidence.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
