mcp-sonar-analysis: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

mcp-sonar-analysis CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from MohanTn/mcp-sonar-analysis. It costs 2,145 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions describing a local MCP server and command-line tool for static code analysis. Static analysis checks source code for bugs, security issues, and maintainability problems without running the application.

In plain words
What is it for?
Building, linting, and testing the project; analyzing TypeScript, TSX, and C# repositories; and understanding its command-line and dashboard entry points.
Why use it?
They tell the agent what the project does, which commands to run, where its main parts are, and how to avoid testing stale compiled files or changing the real user registry.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02145 $0.02145
Opus 5 $0.01073 $0.01073
Sonnet 5 $0.00429 $0.00429
Haiku 4.5 $0.00215 $0.00215

Security

Grade A, and why

mcp-sonar-analysis CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What this project is

A local, server-free MCP server + CLI that brings Sonar-grade static analysis (BUG, VULNERABILITY, CODE_SMELL, SECURITY_HOTSPOT) to TypeScript/TSX and C# repos. TS/TSX is analyzed via ESLint + eslint-plugin-sonarjs; C# via dotnet build + SonarAnalyzer.CSharp SARIF output. Results are cached in a per-repo SQLite database. No SonarQube server, no Docker.

Commands

npm run build   # tsc -p tsconfig.json && copy src/dashboard/public -> dist/dashboard/public
npm run lint # eslint . --ext .ts
npm test # node --import tsx --test test/**/*.test.ts
  • Run a single test file: node --import tsx --test test/core.test.ts
  • test/cli.test.ts and parts of test/dashboard.test.ts spawn dist/cli.js as a subprocess — run npm run build before running those tests or they'll exercise stale compiled output.
  • Tests that touch the global registry set MCP_SONAR_DASHBOARD_HOME to a temp dir (via registry.ts's homeDirOverride/env var) so they never write to the real ~/.mcp-sonar-analysis/registry.json.
  • C# analysis tests are skipped gracefully if dotnet isn't on PATH (same S3 degradation as production code).

Architecture

Entry points

  • src/cli.ts — Commander-based CLI. Subcommands: register-repo, analyse-repo, get-file-analysis, analyse-file, serve (MCP stdio), dashboard. A repo can be referenced by numeric ID or by path — parseRepoIdOrPath treats all-digit args as repoId, everything else as a path.
  • src/mcp/server.ts — MCP stdio server exposing 4 tools (register_repo, analyse_repo, get_file_analysis, analyse_file) with Zod input schemas. Each tool is a thin wrapper that calls the corresponding src/core/* function and JSON-stringifies the result; errors are returned as { error: message } with isError: true, never thrown across the MCP boundary.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
