MonorailCss.Framework: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

MonorailCss.Framework CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from monorailcss/MonorailCss.Framework. It costs 1,386 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for MonorailCSS, a .NET compiler that turns utility class names into CSS. It describes the system's structure, including its parser, components, and intermediate CSS representation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when working on MonorailCSS parsing, utility classes, CSS generation, or related .NET code.
Why use it?
It gives a coding agent the architecture and conventions needed to make changes without guessing how the compiler is organised.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01386 $0.01386
Opus 5 $0.00693 $0.00693
Sonnet 5 $0.00277 $0.00277
Haiku 4.5 $0.00139 $0.00139

Security

Grade A, and why

MonorailCss.Framework CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

MonorailCSS

MonorailCss is a JIT CSS compiler that aims to be a Tailwind CSS 4.3 compatible CSS engine written in .NET. It processes utility class names and generates optimized CSS output.

Architecture Overview

Core Components

  1. CssFramework (src/MonorailCss/CssFramework.cs): Main entry point that orchestrates the entire processing pipeline. It handles parsing, compilation, post-processing, and CSS generation.

  2. Utilities System (src/MonorailCss/Utilities/): Self-contained components that compile CSS class candidates into AST nodes. Each utility handles specific CSS properties:

    • Static utilities extend BaseStaticUtility for fixed property/value mappings
    • Functional utilities extend BaseFunctionalUtility for theme-aware dynamic values
    • Specialized base classes exist for common patterns (colors, spacing, filters)
  3. Candidate System (src/MonorailCss/Candidates/): Represents parsed utility classes with variants and modifiers. The CandidateParser tokenizes and structures raw class names.

  4. AST (Abstract Syntax Tree) (src/MonorailCss/Ast/): Intermediate representation of CSS rules before final generation. Includes Declaration, Rule, ComponentRule nodes.

  5. Processing Pipeline (src/MonorailCss/Pipeline/): Multi-stage transformation pipeline that processes AST nodes through:

    • Theme variable tracking
    • Arbitrary value validation
    • Negative value normalization
    • Color modifier processing
    • Important flag handling
    • Variable fallback resolution
    • Declaration merging
    • Media query consolidation
    • Layer assignment
  6. Theme System (src/MonorailCss/Theme/): Manages design tokens and CSS custom properties. Supports theme customization and usage tracking for optimization.

  7. Variant System (src/MonorailCss/Variants/): Handles pseudo-classes, media queries, and other CSS modifiers. Built-in variants are automatically registered.

  8. Merging System (src/MonorailCss/Merging/): tailwind-merge equivalent (ClassMerger, exposed via CssFramework.Merge). Conflicts are derived from each class's compiled declarations (with shorthand expansion and a scaffold heuristic for --tw-* composition), not from a hand-maintained config — new utilities participate automatically. Utilities with reset semantics (e.g. touch-none) override IUtility.GetMergeInfo to declare the keys they cover. When a later longhand only partially overrides an earlier shorthand, the shorthand is decomposed into the longhand classes that survive (my-4 mt-6mb-4 mt-6) using a one-level class-prefix table (ShorthandDecomposition) over the functional axis families. The rewrite is fail-safe — it only commits when it actually drops a conflicting side, and a synthesized child that doesn't round-trip or that writes a key outside the parent (overloaded roots) is rejected, leaving the original class untouched.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
