.github/copilot-instructions.md

ai-instructions-and-prompts copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for Claude Code, GitHub Copilot from mordilion/ai-instructions-and-prompts. It costs 501 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A repository-specific guide for AI coding agents working on the ai-iap plugin and its library of coding rules. It documents the project layout, Markdown requirements, and how to update and check rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding or changing rules, processes, configuration, skills, or reusable code patterns in this repository, and when validating those changes.
Why use it?
It reduces mistakes caused by overlooking where files belong or breaking required documentation and configuration formats.

Instructions file for Claude CodeGitHub Copilot

Written for Claude Code and GitHub Copilot: ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT} variable, but also a Copilot instructions file. Also seen: mentions Claude Code.

This is mordilion/ai-instructions-and-prompts's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and GitHub Copilot how to work on ai-instructions-and-prompts itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything ai-instructions-and-prompts configures →

Runs only inside a plugin — its command needs a path that Claude Code sets for a plugin’s own hooks and for nothing else, and the catalogue could not identify which plugin ships it.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00501 $0.00501
Opus 5 $0.00251 $0.00251
Sonnet 5 $0.00100 $0.00100
Haiku 4.5 $0.00050 $0.00050

Measured 10d ago against content hash 3764a5c230bc, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ai-instructions-and-prompts copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Copilot Instructions — repo-specific guide

Concise guidance for AI coding agents working in this repository (the ai-iap Claude Code plugin and its rule library).

Project layout

  • Plugin root: plugin/ with manifest plugin/.claude-plugin/plugin.json.
  • Marketplace manifest: .claude-plugin/marketplace.json (repo root).
  • Rule library: plugin/lib/rules/<language>/ (e.g. dotnet/, typescript/, general/), frameworks under rules/<language>/frameworks/, structures under rules/<language>/frameworks/structures/.
  • Config: plugin/lib/config.json (languages → files → frameworks → structures), schema in plugin/lib/config.schema.json.
  • Code library (reusable patterns): plugin/lib/code-library/.
  • Processes: plugin/lib/processes/.
  • Skills: plugin/skills/setup/SKILL.md (setup wizard), plugin/skills/validate/SKILL.md (integrity checks).

Markdown rules (critical)

  • Every .md under plugin/lib/rules/** must start with a top-level # heading as the very first character — no leading blank lines, no UTF-8 BOM.
  • Rule files must not reference repo-internal paths that won't exist in user projects (e.g. .ai-iap/..., .cursor/rules/...). Plugin paths use the ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT} placeholder.

Adding/updating rules

  1. Create the .md under the matching language folder; first line is a # heading.
  2. Register the filename (without .md) in plugin/lib/config.json under the language's files array (frameworks/structures in their respective objects).
  3. Keep the established file pattern: # Title> Scope## CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS (ALWAYS/NEVER directives) → numbered sections → ## AI Self-Check.

Validation

  • Run /ai-iap:validate (Claude Code skill) — checks config JSON, referenced files exist, markdown structure, forbidden path references, persona split files, and manifests.
  • CI: .github/workflows/validate.yml and ai-compatibility-tests.yml run on PRs.
  • Common failures: BOM/blank lines before the heading, or config.json entries not matching actual filenames.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
