adapters/github-copilot/.github/copilot-instructions.md

awesome-requirements-writer copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from muchengracedriver/awesome-requirements-writer. It costs 347 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of writing rules for creating and reviewing technical product requirements: precise statements of what software must do. It also covers breaking requirements into small, testable items with stable IDs.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for drafting, rewriting, reviewing, decomposing, and formalising software requirements, including defining inputs, outputs, conditions, and missing values.
Why use it?
It helps prevent vague, mixed-up, or difficult-to-test requirements that developers and reviewers may interpret differently.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00347 $0.00347
Opus 5 $0.00173 $0.00173
Sonnet 5 $0.00069 $0.00069
Haiku 4.5 $0.00035 $0.00035

Security

Grade A, and why

awesome-requirements-writer copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Awesome Requirements Writer

Use these instructions when drafting, rewriting, reviewing, decomposing, or formalizing technical product requirements.

  • Match the user's language. If the user writes in Chinese, draft requirements in Chinese unless they request English.
  • Separate information from requirements. Rationale, examples, repeated context, diagrams, and verification notes are information, not normative requirement text.
  • Write atomic requirements: one requirement ID maps to one indivisible obligation, condition, or behavior.
  • Prefer positively defined requirements: describe when the system shall perform the required behavior; avoid defining behavior by negating the opposite condition.
  • Avoid magic numbers. Use named static variables and put missing values in a variable table as TBD.
  • Make requirements directly testable: inputs must be controllable and outputs observable.
  • Use explicit AND, OR, NOT, and XOR for compound logic.
  • Use stable IDs such as SYS-001, SWE-001, and HW-001; do not renumber existing IDs unless asked.
  • For information, use [Info] <information body>.
  • For requirements, use [Req <ID>] <requirement body> | <acceptance criteria>.

Bundled References

Do not load all references by default. Use the matching reference only when the task needs it:

  • .github/instructions/references/requirement-patterns-zh.md for Chinese requirement drafting or rewriting.
  • .github/instructions/references/requirement-patterns-en.md for English requirement drafting or rewriting.
  • .github/instructions/references/automotive-context.md for automotive safety, diagnostics, cybersecurity, interfaces, operating states, suppliers, or verification context.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
