smalltalk-validator-mcp-server: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

smalltalk-validator-mcp-server CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from mumez/smalltalk-validator-mcp-server. It costs 633 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for an MCP server that checks Tonel-formatted Smalltalk source code. Tonel is a text format used to store Smalltalk classes and methods.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for validating and linting Tonel files or Smalltalk method bodies from files or text content.
Why use it?
It catches syntax and formatting problems in AI-generated Smalltalk before the code is loaded into a Smalltalk environment.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00633 $0.00633
Opus 5 $0.00316 $0.00316
Sonnet 5 $0.00127 $0.00127
Haiku 4.5 $0.00063 $0.00063

Security

Grade A, and why

smalltalk-validator-mcp-server CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server project for validating Tonel formatted Smalltalk source code using tree-sitter-tonel-smalltalk. The purpose is to validate AI-generated tonel files and Smalltalk method definitions before loading them into a real Smalltalk environment.

Architecture

The project implements five main tools:

Validation Tools

  • validate_tonel_smalltalk_from_file(file_path, options) - Validate Tonel formatted Smalltalk source code from a file
  • validate_tonel_smalltalk(file_content, options) - Validate Tonel formatted Smalltalk source code from content string
  • validate_smalltalk_method_body(method_body_content) - Validate a Smalltalk method body for syntax correctness

Linting Tools

  • lint_tonel_smalltalk_from_file(file_path) - Lint Tonel formatted Smalltalk source code from a file
  • lint_tonel_smalltalk(file_content) - Lint Tonel formatted Smalltalk source code from content string

Validation Options

  • without-method-body: true - Only validates tonel structure (for testing)

Common Commands

  • uv sync - Install dependencies and sync virtual environment
  • uv run pytest - Run all tests
  • uv run pytest tests/test_server.py - Run server tests only
  • uv run pytest -v - Run tests with verbose output
  • uv run ruff check - Lint code with ruff
  • uv run ruff format - Format code with ruff
  • uv run ruff check --fix - Auto-fix linting issues
  • uv run mdformat --check . - Check markdown formatting
  • uv run mdformat . - Format markdown files
  • uv run pre-commit install - Install pre-commit hooks (run once after clone)
  • uv run pre-commit run --all-files - Run all pre-commit hooks manually
  • uv run python -m smalltalk_validator_mcp_server - Run the MCP server

Pre-commit Hooks

Pre-commit hooks automatically run before each commit to ensure code quality:

  • Basic file checks (trailing whitespace, file endings, YAML syntax)
  • Ruff linting and formatting for Python code
  • Mdformat for markdown files
  • Pytest to ensure tests pass

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
