agent-bus: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

agent-bus AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from MustaphaSteph/agent-bus. It costs 341 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for an open-source local messaging project. They tell coding agents where domain code and database migrations belong, which behaviours to preserve, and how to test and publish safely.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing the Agent Bus repository, writing tests, editing SQLite migrations, or preparing a release. They cover local storage isolation, TypeScript checks, cross-process tests, and publication checks.
Why use it?
They reduce accidental changes to unrelated code, real user data, or unpublished material. They also make the required checks and release boundaries explicit.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00341 $0.00341
Opus 5.5 $0.00136 $0.00136
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00068 $0.00068
Haiku 4.5 $0.00034 $0.00034

Security

Grade A, and why

agent-bus AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Agent Bus Local

This repository is the open-source Local distribution. Keep domain behavior in src/bus.ts, SQLite migrations in src/db.ts, and MCP/CLI adapters thin. Preserve existing Local messaging, task, and listener behavior. Agent identities are globally unique; project, area, and team are filters rather than identities.

All tests must use temporary AGENT_BUS_DIR storage. Never mutate the user's real bus or client settings from tests. Keep migrations idempotent, SQL parameterized, and TypeScript strict. Preserve unrelated working-tree changes.

Before release run typecheck, smoke, cross-process, setup, delivery, and wake tests. Run npm run check:publication after building. It checks the current Git index, working files, and npm archive for forbidden material. Enable the tracked pre-push hook with git config core.hooksPath .githooks. npm prepublish runs the same gate. scripts/local-ci.yml is an inactive Actions template; enabling it requires a GitHub credential with workflow permission. Do not claim CI is active until then.

Only Local is approved for publication. Do not add hosted application source, assets, deployment configuration, or internal docs. Preserve this repository's identity, visibility, and history. Never rewrite history or force-push to perform a product separation. Any change to this boundary requires explicit owner authorization. Preserve MIT notices and contributor attribution.

Update README, docs, llms.txt, and the canonical skills/agent-bus when public interfaces change. Sync the companion plugin repository from this checkout. Do not publish npm or deploy without explicit authorization.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
