hermes-memory-hybrid: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

hermes-memory-hybrid AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from neilshermes-project/hermes-memory-hybrid. It costs 317 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for adding hybrid memory to Hermes Agent using text search, vector embeddings, and relational filters, with snapshot-based upgrades.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when running the upgrade, locating its main files, testing memory changes, or promoting and reversing a snapshot safely.
Why use it?
They reduce the risk of changing live agent data by requiring isolated snapshots, verified backups, and a tested way to undo the upgrade.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00317 $0.00317
Opus 5 $0.00159 $0.00159
Sonnet 5 $0.00063 $0.00063
Haiku 4.5 $0.00032 $0.00032

Security

Grade A, and why

hermes-memory-hybrid AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

What it actually says

AGENTS.md

This file exists to help AI agents and autonomous systems understand this repository quickly.

Project Purpose

This repository provides a complete, snapshot-safe, one-command upgrade that adds hybrid memory (FTS5 + sqlite-vec embeddings + relational pre-filtering) to Hermes Agent.

Primary Entry Point for Agents

Run this single command to perform the full upgrade in an isolated snapshot:

python replicate.py --auto-snapshot

Key Files Agents Should Know About

File Purpose
replicate.py Master replication + snapshot orchestrator
SKILL.md Hermes skill metadata (frontmatter required)
README.md Human + agent installation instructions
install.sh One-line curl installer
docs/snapshot-discipline.md Core safety rules for working in snapshots

Important Constraints

  • All development and testing must happen inside an isolated snapshot
  • Never run migration or embedding scripts directly against a live /root/.hermes
  • Always maintain a verified backup + tested backout script before any promotion
  • This upgrade is designed to be fully reversible
  1. Clone or install as skill
  2. Run replicate.py --auto-snapshot
  3. Validate using the test suite inside the snapshot
  4. Only promote to production after full validation

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
