swagger-api-mcp-server: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

swagger-api-mcp-server CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from NekoTarou/swagger-api-mcp-server. It costs 1,465 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A CLAUDE.md instruction file for a Swagger/OpenAPI MCP server. Swagger and OpenAPI are formats that describe web APIs; this server reads those descriptions and exposes their contents as agent tools.

In plain words
What is it for?
Guiding agents through development, starting the server in local or HTTP mode, loading an API specification, and understanding its code layout and cache.
Why use it?
It documents how to build and run the server, and explains that parsed API data is cached locally so responses can stay concise.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01465 $0.01465
Opus 5 $0.00732 $0.00732
Sonnet 5 $0.00293 $0.00293
Haiku 4.5 $0.00146 $0.00146

Security

Grade A, and why

swagger-api-mcp-server CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Build & Run Commands

npm run build # TypeScript compilation (tsc) → dist/
npm start # Run server in stdio mode
npm run start:http # Run server in HTTP mode (port 3000)
npm run dev # Dev mode with auto-reload (tsx watch)
npm run clean # Remove dist/

To auto-load a spec on startup: SWAGGER_URL=https://example.com/swagger.json npm start

Architecture

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that parses Swagger 2.0 / OpenAPI 3.x specifications and exposes their contents as MCP tools. The spec is loaded into memory, parsed once into local JSON cache files, and tools return brief summaries + file paths instead of full content (saving 85-95% of tokens).

Source Layout

  • src/index.ts — Entry point, server factory, all 11 tool registrations, 3 prompt registrations, 3 resource registrations, and both transport implementations (stdio + HTTP with Express). The registerTools() function contains all tool definitions. Each tool follows the pattern: define a Zod schema → call registerToolWithMetadata() with handler. registerPrompts() registers guided workflow prompts. registerResources() registers static resources backed by cache files.
  • src/types.ts — TypeScript interfaces for tool metadata, OpenAPI schema objects, endpoint details, session info. The spec is typed as Record<string, unknown> throughout (not a typed OpenAPI object) — all field access uses bracket notation with explicit casts.
  • src/utils.ts — Pure utility functions: $ref resolution with circular reference protection (deepResolve), Swagger 2.0 vs OpenAPI 3.x abstraction helpers (getSchemas, getServers, extractParameters, etc.), and markdown formatting for tool output.
  • src/cache-types.ts — TypeScript interfaces for cache files: CacheMeta, CacheInfo, CacheTag, CachePathEntry, CacheSchemaEntry, CacheEndpointDetail.
  • src/cache.ts — Cache manager: generates, reads, and clears the .swagger-cache/ directory. Exports generateCache(), readCacheJSON(), getCacheFilePath(), ensureCacheLoaded(), etc.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
