lantern-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

lantern-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from nestordemeure/lantern-mcp. It costs 2,300 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A set of Claude Code instructions for building and using Lantern MCP, a command-line tool and server for searching digitised entertainment trade newspapers and magazines. It documents the Python project, its tools, filters, and two ways to connect to it.

In plain words
What is it for?
Developing, configuring, installing, and maintaining the Lantern MCP project, including its search client, command-line interface, server tools, caching, and request pacing.
Why use it?
It gives the coding agent the project context needed to work on this specific server without having to infer its structure or purpose.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02300 $0.02300
Opus 5 $0.01150 $0.01150
Sonnet 5 $0.00460 $0.00460
Haiku 4.5 $0.00230 $0.00230

Security

Grade A, and why

lantern-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Lantern MCP Server

A CLI and an MCP server for Lantern, the full-text index of the digitised entertainment trade press of the Media History Digital Library. It needs no key, it resolves to a page, and the search response holds the keyword in context.

Stack

  • Python ≥3.12, uv, fastMCP ≥2.0.0, httpx ≥0.27.0

Functions

  • A full-text search at leaf level, with the extract in the search response
  • Filters for the year range, the collection, the publication title, the format and the language
  • A facet listing, so that you can give a full-string filter value exactly
  • An OCR text download for each leaf, taken out of a cached derivative of the full volume
  • Pagination at up to 100 results for each request

client.py holds all the behaviour. server.py and cli.py are thin presentation layers over it, so the search semantics and the cache stay identical for each method of access. The CLI shows each filter without a condition. The MCP server hides them behind --enable-advanced-search.

Two hosts, one client

Lantern indexes text that it does not hold. The search and the facets come from lantern.mediahist.org. The OCR comes from archive.org. The same limiter paces both hosts.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
