scopegate: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

scopegate CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from NexgenSystemsMX/scopegate. It costs 1,040 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A repository instruction file for agents working on ScopeGate, a service that controls coding-agent access to external services without revealing secret values.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to guide development of ScopeGate, including its MCP gateway, credential handling, tests, branches, commits, and releases.
Why use it?
It gives agents the project's purpose, conventions, commands, architecture references, and files they must not change.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01040 $0.01040
Opus 5 $0.00520 $0.00520
Sonnet 5 $0.00208 $0.00208
Haiku 4.5 $0.00104 $0.00104

Security

Grade A, and why

scopegate CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

CLAUDE.md — ScopeGate

Guidance for AI coding agents (Claude Code, Kimi Code, and any MCP harness) working in this repository. If you want to use ScopeGate as a gateway, read SKILL.md and docs/agents/ instead — this file is for developing the gateway itself.

Purpose

ScopeGate is an ephemeral-credentials MCP gateway for coding agents: the agent never holds secrets, it holds short-lived, minimum-scope capabilities. AES-256-GCM vault, fail-closed policy engine, token minters (jwt, github_app, aws_sts, huly, google_sa), Ed25519-signed audit, 21 scopegate_* MCP tools, native bridges (huly/railway/cloudflare/ google), and an optional multi-tenant Cloud control plane. Published as scopegate on npm (Apache-2.0). Architecture: ARCHITECTURE.md.

Conventions

  • Default branch: master. Trunk-based flow: short-lived branch from master → PR → squash merge → delete the branch.
  • Conventional Commits (feat:, fix:, docs:, test:, chore:, refactor:). Releases cut from tags v* via release.yml; SemVer, 0.x during beta (minor = features, patch = fixes).
  • Tests: vitest (tests/*.test.ts). Tests never touch the real ~/.scopegate — use useTempHome() from tests/helpers.ts and import src modules dynamically after calling it (paths resolve at module load).
  • e2e scripts (e2e-*.mjs, run with node, self-contained with a throwaway SCOPEGATE_HOME + ephemeral ports + bridge *_MOCK=1 modes). Three of them require production and do not run in CI: e2e-prod.mjs, e2e-ecosystem-prod.mjs (real operations on Huly/Railway/GitHub/Cloudflare/Google), e2e-landing-prod.mjs.
  • Signed registry is fail-closed: manifests in registry/ are sha256-pinned in index.json and Ed25519-signed in index.sig; the public key is embedded in src/registry/verify.ts. Adding/changing a manifest means re-hashing and re-signing — that is a maintainer operation, not a drive-by edit.
  • No new runtime dependencies without opening an issue first.
  • Language: code, docs and commit messages in English (public OSS).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
