atproto-skills: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

atproto-skills CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from ngerakines/atproto-skills. It costs 3,236 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

An authoring guide for ATProtocol-specific skills, which give AI agents focused knowledge for working with the AT Protocol. AT Protocol is the open networking technology behind services such as Bluesky.

In plain words
What is it for?
It guides the creation of skill folders, required metadata, optional reference documents, helper scripts, and reusable assets. It also explains how to write descriptions that cause the right skill to be selected.
Why use it?
It explains how to organize skills so agents load detailed information only when needed. This helps them choose the right guidance for tasks such as identifiers, API clients, data encoding, and authentication.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.03236 $0.03236
Opus 5 $0.01618 $0.01618
Sonnet 5 $0.00647 $0.00647
Haiku 4.5 $0.00324 $0.00324

Security

Grade A, and why

atproto-skills CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Authoring Guide: atproto-skills

This repository is a Claude Code plugin that packages ATProtocol-specific skills. The goal is that any agent doing ATProto work — designing lexicons, resolving DIDs, writing XRPC clients, decoding DAG-CBOR, auditing OAuth flows — can load the right specialized knowledge on demand instead of relying on generic training-time recall.

This file is the authoring guide. It is also loaded into the context of any agent working inside this repo, so its conventions apply to every skill added here.

1. Skill anatomy

Every skill is a single directory under skills/. The directory name is the skill name.

skills/<skill-name>/
├── SKILL.md ← required. Frontmatter + body.
├── references/ ← optional. Long-form material loaded on demand.
├── scripts/ ← optional. Deterministic helpers (validators, parsers).
└── assets/ ← optional. Templates copied into user outputs. Not loaded into context.

SKILL.md frontmatter:

Field Required Notes
name yes Must match the directory. kebab-case. <30 chars.
description yes The trigger mechanism — see §3.
version no Semver. Conventional but not enforced.

Body conventions:

  • Keep SKILL.md under 500 lines. Spill anything longer into references/ and link to it.
  • Lead with When to use and What this skill provides. Put the Procedure next. Everything else is supporting material.
  • Reference MCP tools by name (see §6) rather than duplicating what they already do.

The canonical starter is templates/SKILL.md.template. Copy it, don't retype it.

Polyglot skills (optional shape)

When a skill's core topic is language-neutral but its idioms differ meaningfully across ecosystems (CIDs, DAG-CBOR, XRPC client design, OAuth flows), use the polyglot layout instead of references/:

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
