software-factory: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/copilot-instructions.md

software-factory copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from nicolasmelo1/software-factory. It costs 323 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of Copilot instructions for reviewing changes in the software-factory repository. It explains how plans define review scope and how to report defects with their affected file, line, and concrete failure.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when reviewing pull requests, checking plan coverage, matching mechanisms and failure rules, and finding missing tests or out-of-scope file changes.
Why use it?
It keeps reviews focused on what the change was meant to do and prevents reviewers from raising issues that the plan marks as outside scope.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00323 $0.00323
Opus 5.5 $0.00129 $0.00129
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00065 $0.00065
Haiku 4.5 $0.00032 $0.00032

Security

Grade A, and why

software-factory copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Reviewing a pull request in software-factory

A change that implements a plan says so in its title or body, and the plan is a file in plans/ (or docs/design/ once delivered) that opens with a YAML declaration. Read that declaration before the diff. It is the scope of the review.

  • cut and guarantee[].not_against are out of scope. A finding they cover is not a defect of this change. Do not report it.
  • A crosses entry answered works with no test behind its proof is a finding. So is one answered refused where the diff does not refuse it.
  • A mechanism in docs/mechanisms.yaml whose paths the diff changes, and that the plan's crosses does not answer, is a finding. Name the mechanism and the concrete scenario that breaks.
  • A file the diff changes outside the plan's touches, other than tests and generated files (evidence digests, mutation fixtures, locks, the ratchet, generated README tables and docs/rules.md sections), is worth one question: why is it here.
  • A failures entry the code does not honour is a finding.

Report a defect with the file and line, the concrete state that breaks it and what it does wrong. Do not report style, naming or comment wording.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
