coda-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

coda-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from nkpar/coda-mcp. It costs 822 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for coda-mcp, a server that lets AI assistants work with Coda documents, tables, and rows through Coda's API. It includes Rust build, test, formatting, and logging commands.

In plain words
What is it for?
Building and checking coda-mcp, running unit, integration, end-to-end, and Docker tests, formatting and linting Rust code, and enabling debug logs.
Why use it?
It gives the coding agent the project's expected commands and explains which tests use mocks, live Coda data, Docker, or a required access token.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00822 $0.00822
Opus 5 $0.00411 $0.00411
Sonnet 5 $0.00164 $0.00164
Haiku 4.5 $0.00082 $0.00082

Measured 8d ago against content hash 49a7e2e0a762, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

coda-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Architecture

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that enables AI assistants to interact with Coda.io documents, tables, and rows via the Coda API.

Core Components

  • src/main.rs - MCP server using rmcp crate. Uses #[tool_router] macro to register 18 tools. JSON-RPC over stdio transport.
  • src/client.rs - HTTP client for Coda API. Key quirk: connection pooling disabled (pool_max_idle_per_host(0)) to avoid HTTP/2 multiplexing issues with Coda's API.
  • src/models/ - Data models for API requests/responses. Each file follows pattern: response structs, list wrappers with pagination, param structs implementing JsonSchema.
  • src/config.rs - Configuration from env vars. Custom Debug impl redacts API token.
  • src/error.rs - Error types with actionable messages.

Key Patterns

Page content retrieval uses async export workflow:

  1. POST /docs/{docId}/pages/{pageId}/export with {"outputFormat": "html"}
  2. Poll GET .../export/{exportId} until status: "complete" (max 30 attempts, 1s interval)
  3. Download content from downloadLink

Write operations return HTTP 202 - changes are queued, not immediate.

Row filtering uses Coda formula syntax: 'Status:"Active"'

Testing

  • tests/integration_tests.rs - Mock-based tests using wiremock
  • tests/e2e_tests.rs - Live API tests, marked #[ignore], require CODA_API_TOKEN
  • tests/docker_e2e.rs - Docker E2E tests, marked #[ignore], require Docker + CODA_API_TOKEN + coda-mcp:local image

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
