.github/copilot-instructions.md

EFC-Plugin copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for Claude Code, GitHub Copilot from Nlai741533/EFC-Plugin. It costs 414 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of coding-agent instructions for the EFC-Plugin, a Python project that checks whether AI-generated research reports are supported by facts. It defines security, testing, versioning, and coding rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when developing, reviewing, testing, or releasing the EFC-Plugin.
Why use it?
It gives the coding agent project-specific expectations, such as not committing secrets and adding tests for new behavior.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00414 $0.00414
Opus 5 $0.00207 $0.00207
Sonnet 5 $0.00083 $0.00083
Haiku 4.5 $0.00041 $0.00041

Measured 6d ago against content hash 6e3bae0f916a, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

EFC-Plugin copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Copilot Coding Agent Instructions

Project Overview

This is EFC-Plugin, a Claude Code plugin that fact-checks AI-generated research reports. It is a small, stdlib-only Python project with a Markdown-based skill and JSON schemas.

Critical Rules

Security — NEVER commit secrets

  • Never put tokens, API keys, or credentials in any file.
  • Never set git remote URLs that contain embedded credentials.
  • If you need to authenticate with GitHub, use GITHUB_TOKEN from the Actions environment.
  • The repo uses gitleaks pre-commit hooks — they will block secret-containing commits.

Test-First Development

  • Always run python3 -m unittest discover -s tests -v before submitting a PR.
  • Every new behavior must include a test. Tests use stdlib unittest only.
  • The golden tests in tests/test_examples.py pin script output against fixtures — if you change a script, update the fixture too.

Version Consistency

  • When bumping version: update BOTH .claude-plugin/plugin.json AND .claude-plugin/marketplace.json version fields.
  • CI checks that these two match, and that they match the git tag on release pushes.

Code Style

  • Python scripts in scripts/ are stdlib-only (no third-party dependencies). Keep it that way.
  • The skill is pure Markdown at skills/fact-check/SKILL.md.
  • JSON schemas go in schemas/.

Documentation Integrity

  • FACTCHECK.md is the repo's self-audit. It must reflect current reality — test counts, validation rules, verified claims.
  • README.md claims must be verifiable. If you add a claim about what a script does, test it.

PR Conventions

  • Keep PRs focused and small.
  • Update CHANGELOG.md with every change.
  • Run gitleaks detect --source . locally if you touched anything credential-adjacent.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
