AGENTS.md — contributing to noerd/noerd
This file is for humans and AI agents working inside this repository (the noerd core package,
noerd/noerd). The rules for building with noerd — lists, details, pages, modals, modules, tests in
a host project — are shipped as a Laravel Boost guideline in
resources/boost/guidelines/core.blade.php (plus the Boost skills in resources/boost/skills/)
and are NOT repeated here. Read that guideline first; it applies to code in this repository as well.
What this repository is
- A Laravel package: YAML-driven list/detail/page components (
NoerdList,NoerdDetail,NoerdPagetraits), the modal system, themes, navigation, tenant apps, install/update commands. - It is consumed either from Packagist (
vendor/noerd/noerd) or as a git submodule atapp-modules/noerdwith a Composer path repository (symlinked) — the host project then contains the package source directly. docs/is the single source of the public documentation (https://noerd.dev). The repositorynoerd-dev/docsis an auto-synced mirror (.github/workflows/sync-docs.yml) — never edit the mirror, it is overwritten on every push tomain.- Released under the MIT license (
LICENSE,Copyright (c) 2026 Johannes Brock). Keep the file in the Packagist archive —.gitattributesexport-ignores development-only paths, neverLICENSE. - Every test lives in a subdirectory of
tests/(Feature,Components,Unit,Commands,Helpers,Middleware,Traits); the root oftests/holds only the shipped test API (TestCase.php,HelperLoader.php,helpers.php,Pest.php).
Workflow
- Never commit or push directly to
main— the branch is protected on GitHub, a direct push is rejected. Create a feature branch, push it and open a GitHub pull request againstmain; squash-merge once the required checks are green. - Release: tagging a version requires the
composer.json"version"field to equal the tag in the tagged commit. The bump is a PR like any other (Bump version to vX.Y.Z); tag the merged commit, then publish the GitHub release with### Added / Fixed / Changed / Docssections. - Composer constraints: when a framework constraint is tightened or loosened, check every
package of the ecosystem that depends on it (
noerd/modal, the modules) — Composer silently falls back to the newest tag that still satisfies the host, so an open range like^0.3keeps resolving to an old version without any error. Raise the minimum along with the change. - A pushed tag is immutable — never move it. Packagist indexes a version once and keeps the
commit it saw first, so re-pointing an existing tag keeps shipping the old code while the
repository looks correct. Consumers see no reason to update, because the version number did not
change. Anything that has to reach users goes into the next patch release instead. This is not
hypothetical:
v0.11.0was moved to a later commit after it had been published, Packagist kept serving the commit from five days earlier, and the releasedv0.11.0was therefore older thanv0.10.13—^0.11.0resolved to less code than^0.10. - Commit messages: one concise sentence describing the change. No generated-by footers, no co-author lines.
- Do not change dependencies (
composer.jsonrequire) without explicit agreement.
