worbrow: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

worbrow AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from noisystreet/worbrow. It costs 665 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository instructions for coding agents and people working on worbrow, a Rust command-line and library project that gives AI agents web search through local browsers. They define the project structure, required design documents, output format, and rules for changes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Guiding work on worbrow, including changes to its Rust layers, browser drivers, JSON output contract, architecture documents, and commits.
Why use it?
They reduce accidental architecture violations and make important checks and commit expectations visible before code is changed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00665 $0.00665
Opus 5 $0.00332 $0.00332
Sonnet 5 $0.00133 $0.00133
Haiku 4.5 $0.00067 $0.00067

Security

Grade A, and why

worbrow AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

Hard constraints and verification entry points for agents (and humans) working in this repository.

Project identity

  • Rust (edition 2024, MSRV 1.97) CLI tool, binary name worbrow, library name worbrow
  • Provides "web search" capability for AI agents: drives local headless browsers, outputs a stable JSON contract
  • Architecture authority: docs/design.md (§5 layering, §6 modules, §7 contract, ADR section)

Hard constraints (revert on violation)

  1. Dependency direction: cli → app → domain/ports ← adapters(drivers/engines). domain has no IO / browser / parser-framework dependencies (serde + chrono for DTO serialization only); app programs only against the ports traits; reverse/cyclic dependencies are forbidden.
  2. Hand-written browser protocols: CDP (Chrome/Edge) and Marionette (Firefox) must be implemented by hand; introducing chromiumoxide / fantoccini / playwright is forbidden. Protocol commands live in their own driver files plus the shared JSON-RPC framework in drivers/jsonrpc.rs. The only exception: revisit per docs/design.md when V2 deep control is needed.
  3. Output contract: stdout only carries JSON (success/failure payloads); the schema_version field only grows, never changes; logs always go to stderr. Breaking the contract requires bumping the schema major version and recording an ADR.
  4. Engine adapters: adding an engine = a new file + one registration line in engines/mod.rs; parse failures go through EngineFailure (engine_error/exit 4); never patch by changing the schema.
  5. Exit-code semantics frozen (0/2/3/4/124/1), see src/error.rs::exit_code.
  6. Safety red lines: no secrets written, no permission bypass, no automatic visits to third-party URLs in search results (output only).

Modifying architecture docs

  • Major structural changes to docs/design.md (layering, ADRs, contract) require user confirmation before changing; small fixes (typos, numbering) can be made directly.
  • New decisions are recorded as ADRs: append to docs/adr/NNNN-title.md (docs/design.md §4 is the index table; format follows the docs-style template).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
