copilot-agentic-workshop: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/copilot-instructions.md

copilot-agentic-workshop copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from nunosoarescsw/copilot-agentic-workshop. It costs 698 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of coding rules for a TaskManager application built with C# and .NET 9. It describes Clean Architecture, a way to keep business logic separate from web and infrastructure code.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding or changing C# code, asynchronous methods, domain logic, application services, or ASP.NET Core minimal API endpoints.
Why use it?
It gives an AI coding assistant consistent project rules, so generated changes fit the chosen language, structure, and API conventions.

Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

Written for GitHub Copilot: a Copilot instructions file.

This is nunosoarescsw/copilot-agentic-workshop's own configuration. It tells GitHub Copilot how to work on copilot-agentic-workshop itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00698 $0.00698
Opus 5 $0.00349 $0.00349
Sonnet 5 $0.00140 $0.00140
Haiku 4.5 $0.00070 $0.00070

Security

Grade A, and why

copilot-agentic-workshop copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 68 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

TaskManager Workshop — Global Coding Standards

This file applies to every Copilot interaction in this workspace. Keep instructions concise and actionable; prefer "do X" over "avoid Y".

Language & Runtime

  • Target .NET 9 and C# 13 features (primary constructors, collection expressions, allows ref struct, etc.)
  • Enable nullable reference types — never suppress #nullable or ! without a comment explaining why
  • Use async/await throughout; all async method names must end in Async
  • Prefer CancellationToken ct as the last parameter on every async method

Architecture — Clean Architecture

Dependency direction: Domain ← Application ← Infrastructure/API

Layer Allowed dependencies Responsibilities
Domain None Entities, value objects, domain events, repository interfaces
Application Domain Services, DTOs, use-case orchestration
Infrastructure / API Application + Domain Controllers/endpoints, repositories, external services
  • Domain entities must never reference Application or Infrastructure types
  • Business logic lives in Application services — endpoints/controllers are thin
  • Use constructor injection (primary constructors preferred); avoid service locator
  • Repository interfaces live in Domain; implementations live in Infrastructure/API

C# Coding Conventions

  • Classes, records, interfaces: PascalCase
  • Private fields: _camelCase
  • Local variables and parameters: camelCase
  • Constants: UPPER_CASE (private) or PascalCase (public)
  • Use sealed on classes that are not designed for inheritance
  • Prefer record for immutable data (DTOs, value objects); sealed record for DTOs
  • Prefer readonly fields over properties where mutation is not needed

API Design (ASP.NET Core Minimal API)

  • Use Minimal API extension methods for endpoint registration (not controllers)
  • Group related endpoints using MapGroup with shared tags and route prefix
  • Return typed Results<T, NotFound, BadRequest> — never IActionResult or object
  • Validate inputs at the API boundary; reject invalid requests with 400 Bad Request
  • All endpoints must have .WithName() and .WithSummary() for Swagger discovery
  • Use PATCH for partial updates; PUT only for full replacements

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
