.github/copilot-instructions.md

kicad-mcp-pro copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from oaslananka/kicad-mcp-pro. It costs 191 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for working safely with KiCad MCP Pro, a tool connection for KiCad electronic-design files. They direct the agent to follow project instructions, use supported KiCad tools, and preserve engineering and release safeguards.

In plain words
What is it for?
They are for making controlled changes to KiCad schematics and circuit-board layouts, loading the right project skills, running repository checks, and respecting branch, workflow, manufacturing, and engineering-review rules.
Why use it?
They reduce the risk of damaging circuit-board or schematic files through unsafe text edits or bypassing required checks and approvals.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00191 $0.00191
Opus 5.5 $0.00076 $0.00076
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00038 $0.00038
Haiku 4.5 $0.00019 $0.00019

Security

Grade A, and why

kicad-mcp-pro copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 16d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

KiCad MCP Pro — GitHub Copilot entry point

Follow the repository AGENTS.md router and the nearest scoped AGENTS.md for every change. Do not replace them with duplicated policy text.

  • Start in read-only mode; use KiCad MCP tools before local file transformations.
  • Never rewrite .kicad_pcb or .kicad_sch by shell/regex when a safe MCP mutation tool is unavailable. Ask for the required profile/tool instead.
  • Do not bypass branch protection, workflow gates, path checks, release guards, or manufacturing approvals. ERC/DRC is evidence, not human engineering signoff.
  • Load only relevant skills from .agents/skills/; canonical source: skills/. Change canonical skills then run python scripts/sync_agent_skills.py --write.
  • Verify scope and security with repository-native tests and policies.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
