mcp-steam: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

mcp-steam AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from obrien-matthew/mcp-steam. It costs 289 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of instructions for an MCP server that connects coding-agent conversations with Giphy, a service for finding and sharing animated GIFs.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for finding and embedding humorous, technical, or context-appropriate GIFs when starting a large task, debugging, reaching a milestone, or completing work.
Why use it?
It helps add relevant visual reactions to notable moments in a conversation without requiring the agent to manually search for GIFs each time.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00289 $0.00289
Opus 5 $0.00144 $0.00144
Sonnet 5 $0.00058 $0.00058
Haiku 4.5 $0.00029 $0.00029

Measured yesterday against content hash b7ba4c72302c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

mcp-steam AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

mcp-steam

MCP server for Steam.

Conventions

Follows the shared conventions from mcp-template (see its AGENTS.md for full rationale): data tools return real dict/list[dict] directly (never json.dumps); action/status tools may return a human-readable -> str, as may tools whose result is genuinely a single string (IDs, versions); errors are raised, never caught and returned as strings; empty results are empty containers ({}, []), not sentinel messages.

Layout

  • src/steam_mcp/server.py -- MCP tool definitions
  • src/steam_mcp/client.py -- HTTP/API client wrapper
  • src/steam_mcp/formatting.py -- response formatters that produce LLM-friendly dicts (no json.dumps)
  • src/steam_mcp/validation.py -- input validators
  • src/steam_mcp/auth.py -- credential loading

Workflow

uv sync # install deps
uv run pytest -q # run tests
uv run ruff check . # lint
uv run ruff format . # format
uv run pyright src/ # typecheck
lefthook install # set up git hooks (one-time)
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
