knowledge-mcp AGENTS.md

knowledge-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from olafgeibig/knowledge-mcp. It costs 1,156 tokens per session, scanned C, original, MIT.

Repository guidance for AI coding agents working on knowledge-mcp, a Python server that connects specialized knowledge sources to AI assistants. It documents the project, files to ignore, and commands for building, linting, and testing.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when modifying knowledge-mcp, installing its development dependencies, running its server or shell, and running all, selected, or matching tests.
Why use it?
It gives an agent the project-specific rules and commands needed to work consistently without guessing how to run or check the code.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.01156 $0.01156
Opus 5 $0.00578 $0.00578
Sonnet 5 $0.00231 $0.00231
Haiku 4.5 $0.00116 $0.00116

Measured 4d ago against content hash 5d4fa06853fa, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade C, and why

knowledge-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Recursive force deletehighDestructive command

rm -rf with a variable or a broad path is one typo away from removing the wrong tree.

AGENTS.md - Agentic Coding Guidelines for knowledge-mcp

This file provides guidelines for AI agents operating in this repository.

Project Overview

  • Project: knowledge-mcp - A MCP server bridging specialized knowledge domains and AI assistants
  • Language: Python 3.12
  • Build System: hatchling
  • Dependency Manager: uv

Ignore Patterns

  • data/
  • archive/
  • tmp/

Build, Lint, and Test Commands

Running Tests

# Run all tests
uv run pytest

# Run a specific test file
uv run pytest tests/test_config.py

# Run a single test
uv run pytest tests/test_config.py::test_successful_config_loading

# Run tests with verbose output
uv run pytest -v

# Run tests matching a pattern
uv run pytest -k "test_config"

Development Commands

# Install in development mode
uv sync --group dev && uv pip install -e .

# Run the MCP server with uvx
uvx knowledge-mcp --config ./kbs/config.yaml mcp

# Run the interactive shell
uvx knowledge-mcp --config ./kbs/config.yaml shell

# Run the CLI directly
uv run knowledge-mcp

# Clean build artifacts
rm -rf build/ dist/ *.egg-info/
find . -type d -name __pycache__ -exec rm -rf {} +
find . -type f -name "*.pyc" -delete

Note: The Makefile provides convenient shortcuts (make dev-install, make insp, make shell, make main, make test, make clean) as an alternative to these uv commands.

Using uv

# Add a dependency
uv add <package>

# Remove a dependency
uv remove <package>

# Sync dependencies
uv sync

# Use uv pip only if really necessary
uv pip install <package>

Code Style Guidelines

General Principles

  • Use Python 3.12 features and syntax
  • Follow PEP 8 style guide (Ruff is the primary linter/formatter)
  • Use explicit code that clearly communicates intent over implicit, overly concise code
  • Keep the Zen of Python in mind when making design decisions
  • Do not over-engineer solutions. Strive for simplicity and maintainability while still being efficient.
  • Favor modularity, but avoid over-modularization.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
