mcp-camptocamp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

mcp-camptocamp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from olaurendeau/mcp-camptocamp. It costs 645 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for an MCP server, a program that lets an AI query the Camptocamp.org mountain-route API. They describe the TypeScript architecture, tests, Docker workflow, and type checking.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing API clients or tool handlers, adding route or waypoint searches, writing tests, or running the project in Docker.
Why use it?
They give the agent reliable project-specific guidance and help it use the API’s route, summit, and waypoint data instead of guessing mountaineering facts.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00645 $0.00645
Opus 5 $0.00322 $0.00322
Sonnet 5 $0.00129 $0.00129
Haiku 4.5 $0.00064 $0.00064

Security

Grade A, and why

mcp-camptocamp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Goal

This project provides an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that exposes the Camptocamp.org API to LLMs. The goal is to enable LLMs to query accurate, up-to-date information about mountain routes, summit altitudes, and route descriptions — preventing hallucinations about mountaineering data.

Architecture

    └── waypoints.test.ts # Tool handler unit tests

The tool handlers in src/tools/ are pure functions (no SDK coupling) — they take typed inputs and return formatted strings, making them easy to test in isolation.

Docker Commands

All development happens inside Docker — no local Node.js required.

# Install dependencies (first time or after package.json changes)
docker compose run --rm dev npm install

# Type-check
docker compose run --rm dev npm run lint

# Run tests
docker compose run --rm dev npm test

# Watch mode during development
docker compose run --rm dev npm run test:watch

# Build production image
docker compose build mcp

MCP Tools

Tool Description
search_routes Search mountain routes by keyword, returns list with ID, title, activities, elevation, rating
get_route Get full route detail by ID (description, ratings, elevation data, gear)
search_waypoints Search waypoints (summits, huts, bivouacs) by name
get_waypoint Get waypoint detail by ID (altitude, GPS coordinates, description)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
