open-paper-trading-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

open-paper-trading-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from Open-Agent-Tools/open-paper-trading-mcp. It costs 6,749 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Project instructions for an open paper-trading simulator: software that imitates buying and selling assets without using real money. It covers a REST API, which lets programs send web requests, and MCP tools for AI agents.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when developing, running, testing, or maintaining the simulator and its API or AI-agent interfaces.
Why use it?
It gives coding agents the project rules, commands, and development workflow they need to work safely in the repository. It also documents the requirement to use real Robinhood market data in production rather than made-up data.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.06749 $0.06749
Opus 5 $0.03374 $0.03374
Sonnet 5 $0.01350 $0.01350
Haiku 4.5 $0.00675 $0.00675

Measured 11d ago against content hash ac2c9656679f, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

open-paper-trading-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

Open Paper Trading MCP is a comprehensive paper trading simulator with dual interfaces: a REST API (FastAPI) and AI agent tools (MCP). The system simulates multi-asset trading (stocks, options, ETFs, bonds) with real market data for algorithmic trading development and AI agent training.

CRITICAL: Real Data Only Policy - The system MUST always use real market data from Robinhood API for all production APIs, MCP tools, and core trading service responses. Synthetic/test data should ONLY be used in pytest mocks and test fixtures. Never use test adapters in production Docker containers or live services.

Current Status (2025-08-06): 🎉 PRODUCTION READY QUALITY - Successfully implemented dual-server architecture with FastAPI server (port 2080) for frontend/API and independent MCP server (port 2081) for AI agent tools. Both servers running simultaneously with full functionality. FastMCP integration resolved via server separation after mounting conflicts. Code cleanup completed: All ruff linting issues resolved (100% compliance), core application 100% mypy compliant, 576/581 journey tests passing (99.1% success rate). AsyncIO infrastructure fully stabilized with zero warnings. Database connection pool optimized with proper resource management. Advanced Options Trading: Professional spread builder with 15+ strategies, real-time P&L analysis, and comprehensive risk metrics. MCP Tool Validation Complete: 42/42 ADK evaluations tested with 100% agent behavior validation - all agents correctly execute proper multi-step workflows using live market data.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
